After yesterday’s SCOTUS ruling in the matter of Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores Inc., wherein the highest court in the land decided 5-4 that “closely held” for-profit corporations have a right to religiously object to government regulations (because Corporations Are People Too) with regard to the “contraceptive mandate” of the Affordable Care Act, it all really came down to conception and the process of. I have recently started the process of trying to quit smoking. My doctor has recommended that using the e- cigarette may be an effective way to wean myself off of my 22 year nicotine addiction and cigarette habit. So far, so good. However, I feel a bit awkward about e -cigarette etiquette and where the line of regulation should be drawn. Apparently, several states and cities in the country are starting to feel the same way. As a Colorado resident, I was fussing yesterday about all the news about recreational marijuana. It’s the only topic of conversation in this state. However, since we’re breaking new ground, there are a lot interesting facts.
The first is the issue is medical marijuana licenses versus recreational purchases. It’s been possible to get a medical marijuana license in Colorado for some time. The fee has dropped to $15 for the license. There is an additional cost for visiting a doctor that specializes in medical marijuana. Not all doctors do it because there is some liability involved. Still, there are many that will. Their fees tend to be around $100. Continue reading
I briefly attended a fitness class whose instructor would shout that out. She was a delightful instructor. Positive. Fun. Upbeat. Students loved her. Unfortunately, I took that class when I wasn’t yet ready to give myself a chance. See, I couldn’t get the routine down in 3 classes and I hadn’t lost any weight in that same week, so I gave up on myself and was no longer showing her my plank. Continue reading
Have we always considered sex exercise? Meaning have we told ourselves that sex actually has some sort of medicinal property that’ll tone your muscles, helps respiration, flexibility, and burns loads of calories? HA! No. Sex is fun — and that’s primarily it. So stop trying to make it healthy, sex havers. Continue reading
Only 15 days left! Can she do it? My trainer, in very hushed tones, asked me where I thought things went wrong with this goal. HVDY?, was my initial response. After all, at the time that he asked, there were still 20 days left in the challenge. Truth is, however, that after nine weeks, I still haven’t reached the halfway point of my trip – womp womp. Science has discovered that what men really need to stay trim, virile, and probably to keep from taking a sledgehammer to the temple of their bosses every Monday morning, is a good helping of estrogen. Away are those notions that only increasing a man’s testosterone will keep them rock solid in every way that counts. Continue reading
“Whose streets? Our streets!” was one of the chants repeated Saturday night by organizers of the Los Angeles edition of Clitoral Mass. The ride’s official start time was 5:00 pm from Watts Towers in South Los Angeles, and would take the women and women-identified cyclists throughout Los Angeles, traveling north through downtown Los Angeles, and east into Pasadena, Highland Park and Boyle Heights.
