Have we always considered sex exercise? Meaning have we told ourselves that sex actually has some sort of medicinal property that’ll tone your muscles, helps respiration, flexibility, and burns loads of calories? HA! No. Sex is fun — and that’s primarily it. So stop trying to make it healthy, sex havers.
According to a study conducted by the New England Journal of Medicine, sex lasts six minutes on average and only burns about 21 calories. 21 calories? Is that even half a bite of doughnut, or three small sized fries? And here we thought our championship cavorting could knock off all the calories gained from a pasta binge or a beer outing after a pub crawl. No, basically, all you’re doing is flipping your feet over your head for the pleasure of doing so. Even WebMD says 30 minutes of sex can only burn in the neighborhood of 85 to 100 calories. All the glorious sweating and flopping around at the foot of your bed should at least earn someone a caramel latte after all is said and done. Well, that’s not nearly worth it at all!
CNN has some solutions for you — those of you truly concerned that you aren’t multitasking enough between the sheets. However, if you’re more concerned with calorie counting while in the throes of sex-coupling, then well, some may say that UR DOING IT WRONG!
Flexi-sex: Incorporating yoga poses could help burn anywhere between 100 and 300 calories per half hour.
Sex endurance eating: Kick up endurance with foods such as figs, oysters, celery, blueberries, peanuts, bananas, garlic and even chocolate which have the potential to boost a man’s sexual stamina. (Should we discuss the potential smell factor of sex after eating oysters, bananas, and garlic? Probably not.)Carbloading is also not advised.
Switch it up: Any good workout needs variety, right? Try more challenging and adventurous positions.
Core-gasm: Engage your core at all times while having sex. Focusing on your core and isolating the muscles around your pelvic floor will strengthen your six-pack, and make your tummy look flatter in the moment.
Cross-train: Exercise beforehand for better sex. Women who regularly exercise have more active sex lives, reach orgasm more quickly and are more easily aroused than sedentary women. Furthermore, women are more sexually responsive following 20 minutes of vigorous exercise. Among males, short intense exercise is linked with increased testosterone levels, which may stimulate sexual interest and behavior.
So all is not entirely lost. You may be able to have your cake-gasms and eat them too, if you know how to get the most out of pelvic thrusting for health purposes. Ahem.
