What Will You Watch This Fall?

The challenge for network television to gain more eyeballs is even more daunting than ever. Pay-TV, Netflix, Hulu, and other live-streaming vehicles have upped the ante when it comes to television programming. There are just so many places other than the big five to see good tv. So what’s a network to do when the competition is steep and there’s everything to lose with shows like Game of Thrones, The Americans, American Horror Story, Orange is the New Black, and Fargo taking over the game — release a new fall season full of shows that they hope will finally find resonance with audiences who are looking for audacious, risk-taking programming. Can the networks deliver?

Well, they can certainly try. Below we’ve listed a few of the shows that seem worth checking out. Note: We’re only discussing shows that are totally new here. That means, “We’re not talking about NCIS: Let’s Wear Our Leisure Suits to the Park to Feed the Pigeons or CSI: Cyber Crime in 2014 or Wow, the Internet.” You can look at those things on your own time. Which seems to be quietly put them out to pasture right before everyone wonders where they store Alyssa Milano for the rest of the year. Continue reading

So, we’re on part 1, which was partially shown online, for some of you. RuPaul explains that the winner gets a lot of money and a whole bunch of cosmetics.

The queens come in and yammer at each other, the way they do. RuPaul joins us all and introduces us to Mike Ruiz, the first photo challenge and the new pit crew. Never leave me, Sean Morales. However, the new crew has two new members, both sponsored by Scruff. Now, I’d forgive you if you had no clue they were, since both look to be waxed to within an inch of their lives. Continue reading

Ten Things You Should Know About House of Cards

house_of_cardsFriday, February 14 will be a momentous day across these United States. No, not because of Valentine’s Day. No, anybody can get chocolates or jewelry from Kay or Jared on any other day of the week, but a new season of the American version of “House of Cards”?

That is worthy of special note.

Top 6 Acts of NBC’s “The Sing Off”

The_Sing-Off_Official_LogoThe Sing-Off returns tonight! The first season aired in December of 2009. Our family watched it as we decorated our Christmas tree and, then, for the next two Christmasses after that. This year, my 6-year-old mentioned it in a school project in which he was to list family holiday season traditions:

“We drink hot chocolate and watch The Sing-Off.” Continue reading

MaxGreenfieldWhether he’s filling his party bus with kosher yogurt (kosher yog) or naming his unborn child in honor of the little-known rabbi Menachem Menandel Schmerson (I hear he was based out of Philadelphia), New Girl‘s Schmidt is constantly coming up with Jewish one-liners funny enough to make you laugh until you’re verklempt. As Schmidt would say, “I’m like a sexual snowflake. Each night with me is like a unique experience.” In honor of Chanukah, here’s a list of Schmidt’s 8 Greatest Jewish Quotes, one to make each night of Chanukah a unique experience.
