Ten Things You Should Know About House of Cards

house_of_cardsFriday, February 14 will be a momentous day across these United States. No, not because of Valentine’s Day. No, anybody can get chocolates or jewelry from Kay or Jared on any other day of the week, but a new season of the American version of “House of Cards”?

That is worthy of special note.

Before you binge watch season 2 of “House of Cards,” here are a few things you might want to know about season 1:

  • Frank Underwood is the House Majority Whip who gets passed over for the position of Secretary of State. This does not please him in the slightest.
  • More fantastically, he’s a Democrat. From South Carolina. That’s damned near science-fiction.
  • Frank Underwood murdered a US Congressman (Peter Russo). Seriously. As in got him drunk(er) and left him in a garaged car with the engine running.
  • Frank Underwood single-handedly screwed over a teacher’s union, a local official, the head of the aforementioned teacher’s union, various and sundry Senators and Congresspersons,
  • Frank Underwood may or may not be bisexual. He was maybe sorta kinda in love with a classmate from the not-Citadel (called The Sentinel).
  • Claire Underwood had an affair with an artiste that started up again during the season.
  • Claire Underwood fired half her staff at her non-profit. The woman is so COLD, the hot flashes she’s experiencing during her menopause won’t help.
  • Frank Underwood had an ongoing affair with a cub reporter for the Washington Post—I mean, Herald. The Washington Herald.
  • Zoe Barnes, reporter for the Herald, broke off the affair with Frank and is now seeing a dude who works for the Herald. Zoe no longer works for the Herald; she works for some Internet news blog or somesuch.
  • Oh, and Claire knew about the affair the entire time. She tacitly approved, but only because she thought there was something that both she and Francis could gain from the affair.
