Last night before bed I realized the 21 Jump Street trailer had debuted. Before I clicked on it, I had the fleeting thought of, “Well, maybe this thing won’t be so bad. Perhaps it’ll be funny and smart! Maybe it’ll be new but still nostalgic.” That’s crazy lady thinking, right? Yes, absolutely.

Ben and Matt are wiseguys yet again. Plagues could beat zombies in a fight. Elvis liked drugs so much he wanted to arrest them. Huh? Sherlock and Watson always and forever. Milla Jovovich has a thought, Chachi is a dad, NBC unsurprises, and Eddie Murphy won’t wear his dancing shoes for you!
Today’s Hollywood news wants you to be a team player.
Martha Marcy May Marlene and Jeff, Who Lives At Home are two films that take a look at the people in their twenties and early thirties who haven’t quite found themselves. No, they aren’t hippies but the characters are definitely people that go through life in a way that society doesn’t always agree with.
Frankly, we would have preferred Pigs From Space, but that’s not in the cards; Zombies to take over all of teevee; Droids at the breakfast table, now that’s progress; Nic Cage strikes again! But this time we could possibly like it. Protest corporations not Batmobiles…and much, much, more!

Chris Pine and Tom Hardy will be walking sex sticks wrapped in orgasm butter, which means there’s at least a 75% chance one or both will be naked before this stupid thing ends! Woot! Continue reading
Today’s A.V. Club AVQ&A is about unhappy endings, and I’m curious to hear what the Crassholes have to say about this topic. Mainstream American films end happily virtually every time. It’s also a safe bet that the happy ending will involve a heterosexual coupling–we can leave that discussion for Crasstalk’s Gay Day. But let’s expand the discussion to television and literature as well. What are some of your favorite unhappy endings? What unhappy endings don’t work for you or feel as contrived and manipulative as a forced happy ending?
Here are a few documentaries to get your blood boiling. Who knows, watched all in a row they might make you go out and become an activist. Continue reading
It’s practically heresy to admit it in critical “cineaste” circles, but this is the truth: I like Romantic Comedies. When done well: There’s romance! There’s comedy! What’s not to like? Continue reading
On Crasstalk’s Day of Women Things, let’s take a moment to highlight some films that showcase strong female characters.
