Question of the Day: What’s Your Favorite Pork Product?

Welcome to the Crasstalk Question of the Day. We’re going to do a daily post where we ask you a different question each day and you the Crass Nation provide an answer. Particularly good answers may even be featured in future QOTDs.

So it’s Monday Morning and you’re probably sitting in your cubicle dreaming of a hot plate teeming with scrum-diddly-umcious breakfast foods like bacon and Canadian bacon and sausage (and Canadian sausage?).

What’s your favorite pork product?

There are so many great ones to choose from, because even though pigs are widely considered among the most intelligent of domesticated animals, they are not smart enough to not make themselves so delicious. For this one I want to immediately go with bacon. Everyone loves wrapping things/themselves in bacon and going to town on the wonderful strips of salty pig-grease. Another wonderful choice is Chinese-style pork buns (pictured at top from Momofuku).

But personally after about three strips of bacon I can take no more. That’s where my choice, prosciutto, comes in.

First of all, I can probably eat a full three pounds of prosciutto in one sitting. It’s so THIN. Plus when you eat prosciutto, you can practically envision a mustache-and-overalls-wearing Italian named Luigi cutting  the pig up and serving it. It’s PURE PORKTASTIC DELICIOUSNESS, people.

Monday Daytime Open Thread

Welcome to Crasstalk. Hope you are ready for an exciting week around here. Thanks to everyone who participated in the workshop last night. Please feel free to look through the thread for ideas or to add more of your own; I will check it throughout the day.

This weekend Crasstalkers competed in another battle to find the worst music the internet has to offer. Here are the winners of Country Music Wars:

There was a tie for runner up. The first contender was this wonderful selection from Daisy_Sage.

P_mouse tied her effort with this “classic.”

While both of these efforts were formidable, the championship went to Momof3wildkids for this winning(?) selection.

Wow. Congrats MO3WK. Have a great day.

Saturday Night Movie Open Thread

Well good evening gang. Hope you have had a wonderful day. A quick reminder that there will be a writer’s workshop around 5 PM EST tomorrow night. Hopefully we can come up with some great stuff for the next month.

Tonight’s movie is 1965’s Bloody Pit of Horror. It involves a creepy castle, models, and a mysterious figure known as The Crimson Executioner. It’s badness is simply elegant. Hope you enjoy it.

Have a great night.

Bad Country Music Wars

Last week, we had a battle battle for Light Rock supremacy here at Crasstalk. After the dust settled and the weak were vanquished, it was suggested that our next battle involve both kinds of music.

So here you go warriors. Let the battle of the cheesy and terrible begin. Here are a couple to get you started.

Let’s mix in some obligatory patriotism.

This is why I never tell people I grew up in Nebraska.

All right warriors, you know what to do. May God have mercy upon your soul.

Photo Phriday: Say ‘Cheese!’

Welcome to the April Fools’ edition of Photo Phriday!  I hope your day was full of merriment, pranks, and foolishness. It has come to my attention many of you are having a bad day/week/month/life.  Wasn’t this week one of the worst? However, you know what always makes me feel better?

Seeing someone smile.

So, I want to see your smile! If you’re too self-conscious to show us your pearly whites, feel free to post a picture of something that makes you grin every time you lay eyes on it. This could include pictures of, well, just about anything! The only rule is the picture has to make you smile.

This guy knows what to do.

Have fun, babes!

Just follow these helpful tips for image sharing, adapted from previous Photo Phriday instructions:

  • This is the magic computer code you use to make pictures appear: [img src=”PHOTO URL HERE”]. NOTE: Replace the brackets with the carrots < >.
  • And it’s a URL, not photo file.  Crasstalk doesn’t accept files from your hard drive – only from the Internet. You can upload your photo to Facebook, Flickr, TinyPic, or any other online photo hosting site to generate a URL for the photo.
  • Also, be sure to add a few words of text with your picture so it doesn’t get tripped up in the site’s spam filter.
  • To pick up an image online, right click (or ctrl-click on a Mac) on an image and select “View Image.” Copy-and-paste the URL and plug it into the img src html code.
  • To upload the picture you found, this is what you type (again, replacing the brackets with the greater than and less than symbols < >):

Flashback Friday: Just Let Your Soul Glow!

Ahhhh yeah baby. I’m way too excited for this. I know you Crasstalkers have been ready and waiting for today since last week so here we go.

Sam Cooke is a beautiful man with a beautiful voice. This song is so heart-breaking, so wistful, so poignant. There aren’t enough adjectives that are fitting for this song.

Now, let’s get funky with The Staples Singers. Roebuck “Pops” Staples, the patriarch of the family, formed the group with his children Cleotha, Pervis, Yvonne, and Mavis. Fun fact: Bob Dylan wanted to marry Mavis and asked for her hand in marriage. Can you imagine the talent their kid would have had?

Let me to just also add that videos from Soul Train’s Soul Train line will not be turned away. If you have been to a wedding and not done a Soul Train line, you have not lived.
