Hey Crassholes! I’m happy to announce that starting today I will be hosting PhotoPhridays from here to eternity, or as long as I can come up with ideas, whichever comes first. Continue reading

When The House of the Devil hit the festival circuit–leading up to a limited theatrical run–in 2009, Ti West established himself as a horror director to watch. Though not his first project, The House of the Devil hit a sweet spot: film nerds and critics loved his movie, but so did genre aficionados. West beautifully crafted a picture that paid homage to the Satanic Panic flicks of the 80s while also establishing a knack for building tension and dread with slow-burn storytelling and a clear directorial point-of-view.
Fast forward to 2011: West’s new film, The Innkeepers, is currently available on-demand through your cable provider or Amazon Instant Video. Though his new feature finds him in familiar territory (limited setting, small cast), The Innkeepers stands on its own merits. Continue reading

It happens every year, and every year, we all (rightfully) get up in arms about it, even though we shouldn’t have expected any better. At this point, it’s like scolding your infant for making a mess; what did you think would happen? And yet, every year, you can’t help but hope for better, because they should be better, because the idea that we can have a black president but we can’t have an actress of color grace the panel of Vanity Fair that actually shows on newsstands is so utterly incomprehensible that it makes me want to egg Conde Nast in frustration. Unfortunately for BMW-owned MINI, what was meant to be a cheap publicity stunt has associated both with the marque’s iconic MINI Cooper across a large swathe of Europe. Continue reading
This week, Ke$ha waits for the designers in Central Park, skin glistening like a Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Small bits of krill and shrimp shells are hanging from her stringy locks as she tells the sewtestants that they have to accost random strangers and get them to hand over their clothes. As always, there are spoilers inside, so click at ya own risk!
It’s time for the Super Bowl and the western part of the United States couldn’t be less interested in the outcome as this remix will pit the Giants against the Patriots. Both teams should consider themselves lucky to be in the big game as they were both a couple of plays away from sitting at home and watching the game on their ridiculously expensive TVs. The Giants escaped from San Francisco thanks to a couple crucial special teams errors by a rookie. The Patriots eked out a win over the Ravens thanks to a stellar defensive play (what?) and a missed chip-shot field goal at the end of regulation. Let’s break the game down and see if we can figure out who is going to win this. Continue reading
