Oh, thought you were so clever there parents, didn’t you? Yup. You sure did. You thought that you’d find a way to utilize your teens’ penchant for all their technological devices and still get them to do those mundane things like walk the dog, take out the trash, empty the dishwasher and such, eh? You fools! Teens these days have just upped the ante. They’ve decided to just out and out drug you to gain even more access to the things that matter most in their lives — using the internet. Pigeonholed for the Stripper Pole

Recently my friend Misty and I were having lunch and she mentioned that she’s looking for a new job. She told me her rather plain middle name and asked me if I thought she should use that on job applications. I told her I liked the name Misty but didn’t have a good answer about what would be most effective at landing a new job. Here’s an essay she wrote about living with her name.

I’m thinking about ditching my first name for job applications, and using my middle name instead. The other day I remembered that while I worked briefly at a restaurant back in 2006, the manager asked me if Misty was a nickname. He might have asked before writing out the first paycheck. When I said no, he replied that he thought it might have been my “dancing name.” His name is one of the most common-  one that doesn’t register a blip on any snobbiness radar- yep, John. The Social Security website lists the most popular names by decade here. Continue reading

Buildups and Holdbacks: The World of Sneezing Fetishists

Whenever I see someone request their freaky, ultra-specific fetish on Craigslist, I immediately fear for human civilization, then take solace in the fact that these people are pretty much the only ones on the planet looking for a partner who will “fart all over the place before making it too the toilet” or whatever. But somehow Crasstalk’s own SusanBAwesome and I stumbled upon a sprawling world of widespread freakiness that defies all logical explanation.

Did you know that YouTube fetish videos of girls (and a few guys) sneezing routinely get thousands and thousands of views? Oh, you didn’t know that and would have been perfectly content to someday die without ever realizing that insane nutballs get their jollies from watching girls sneeze? WELL TOO BAD.  Continue reading

Craigslost: It Wasn’t Even a Big Dick

craigslost, chronicling the worst of craigslistHey, I just met you. And this is crazy, but here’s my bath salts-fueled midget gang bang in the Taco Bell parking lot, so call me maybe.

This week Slim and I found so many insane Craigslist ads that we couldn’t help but ponder what the world would be like if it operated on the social norms of Casual Encounters, Strictly Platonic and other insane CL.com forums. Every single worker in the economy would make a living posing for “erotic art photoz” and the housing market would be based on skeevy dudes offering rooms to vulnerable single ladies “who just need a little help.” Shiver. It’d basically be like “Children of Men,” but with more ball gags.

OK, now that our dystopian vision has brought the frisson, let’s get to the fuckery.

Warning: Craigslost is NSFW. Continue reading

Lady-Person of “Binders Full of Women” Fame Tweets Like a Boss

During Tuesday’s much talked about Townhall debate, undecided voter Katherine Fenton asked a question about equal pay for women in the workplace. This complex, convoluted question forced Mitt Romney to accidentally reveal his secret binders full of women to the electorate. Unfair!

According to the bizarro rules of the conservative media world, the next logical step is to discredit the questioner by destroying that person publicly. After some flimsy attempts to connect her to Feminazism, the crack investigative team at the Washington Free Beacon studied Ms Fenton’s twitter account and discovered some damning information. Richard Lawson Defends Adrian Chen’s Troll-Exposing Article About Reddit

Richard Lawson Defends Adrian Chen, Explains Why Anonymity is Not An Absolute Right

On Friday Gawker’s Adrian Chen dropped his much-anticipated article exposing the IRL identity of star Reddit troll “Violentacrez.” The article raised some interesting questions about how Reddit is managed and its close ties to some unseemly characters. But even more interesting is the debate it has ignited over whether internet users have a right to their own anonymity.

This is a a topic we’ve debated here before and it really is a subject worth discussing (especially since Crasstalkers rarely agree on anything). That’s why I particularly enjoyed the comment that former Gawker writer (and longtime Friend of Crasstalk) Richard Lawson posted in reply to Chen’s article FridayContinue reading

Life Lessons: Big Sister Plays Life Coach to Younger Brother Winning Epic Awwws

Well, if this little girl doesn’t have a job waiting for her as a therapist, well, we just don’t know what. This will probably be the best thing you’ll see all day. And really, and truly, someone should pay her for her services. It’s not every day a grade schooler can break down the societal outcomes of the playground which just naturally is an allegory for most of the pivotal moments of our entire lives. “You need to toughen up a bit” should be written in gold somewhere. (And Paul Ryan should wear it today just because.) Continue reading
