It turns out that in 2007 the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND – the German intelligence agency) shredded the files of 250 BND employees who had been members of either the National Socialist German Workers Party, better known as the Nazis, or the Gestapo. Continue reading
Disenchanted with blurbs, gotchas and shallow one sided reporting?
Why I love Al Jazeera, a short blurb… oh crap, I’m infected!!1!
I’m personally finding it hard to read any news item these days without casting a side-eye at the source and wondering… left wing? right wing? wing nut? Credibility is lost, and it’s not coming back anytime soon. Investigate, question, report – if I want your opinion or religious slant I wouldn’t be reading the N.E.W.S. dipshit. Continue reading
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Netflix, which once seemed untouchable, has announced that they are predicting losses for all of 2012. They are mainly attributing their losses to expanding service to the U.K. and Ireland, but a loss of subscribers following a public relations gaffe this summer is not helping.
Some years ago, a small rural town in Spain twinned with a similar town in Greece. The Mayor of the Greek town visited the Spanish town. When he saw the palatial mansion belonging to the Spanish mayor, he wondered how he could afford such a house. The Spaniard said: “You see that bridge over there? The EU gave us a grant to build a two-lane bridge, but by building a single lane bridge with traffic lights at either end this house could be built.”
The following year the Spaniard visited the Greek town. He was simply amazed at the Greek Mayor’s house – gold taps, marble floors – it was marvelous. When he asked how this could be afforded the Greek said; “You see that bridge over there?” The Spaniard replied: “No.” Enough said. Continue reading

After three weeks and no significant leads, police are now starting to evaluate the parents more closely. Continue reading
Yes, he’s dead. The world is a better place for it. And really, if you live by the sword, you die by the sword.
However, at some point I’d prefer those two-dimensional animated re-enactments depict the events of the capture and death of some heinous, disgusting, crazed, devil. I can really do without the various photos and video footage of the death of an evil man on an endless loop, and popping up like some sort of cannibalized zombie from the worst horror movie ever on my computer screen. An article by DNAinfo today discusses the breakdown of negotiations between OWS and residents around Zuccotti Park. This past Friday, Councilman Chin hosted a meeting between OWS and some residents to address some concerns about noise, garbage and safety in Zuccotti Park.
Chin commented that the OWS representatives seem very reasonable and agreed to certain restrictions but apparently do not have any real authority to negotiate or enforce any agreements. “The residents in the area are overwhelmed, and rightfully so,” Chin continued. “At this point, I have to conclude that OWS is unable, or unwilling, to address the concerns expressed by the community. We have tried to work with the protesters and to support them, but that support is waning.” Continue reading
It was announced today that the Obama administration has authorized the deployment of 100 US troops to capture the leader of Ugandan guerrilla group the Lord’s Resistance Army. In a letter to Congressional leaders Obama noted that the troops would not engage in wide scale operations against the LRA, but rather would be tasked with finding Joesph Kony.
