Breaking: US to Send Troops to Uganda to Capture LRA Leader

It was announced today that the Obama administration has authorized the deployment of 100 US troops to capture the leader of Ugandan guerrilla group the Lord’s Resistance Army. In a letter to Congressional leaders Obama noted that the troops would not engage in wide scale operations against the LRA, but rather would be tasked with finding Joesph Kony. Kony is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes.

Kony is accused of wide scale killing of civilians, the abduction and use of child soldiers, and the use of rape as a tactic in the Ugandan civil war and in several other regional conflicts the LRA was involved in. That war ended in 2006, but Kony escaped to the Central African Republic where he continues to terrorize civilians.
