Liveblogging “Drew Peterson: Untouchable”

Ready, set, victimize!

If there’s one thing we can count on, it’s Lifetime, Television For Women giving us movies that seem to feature women in various kinds of peril. Take a look at their Saturday or Sunday schedule. It’s full of movies like “Date With Darkness” or “The Craigslist Killer.” Basically, the Ladyparts Network has become the Law and Order: Special Victimized Women’s Unit. How fortuitous that murdering douchebag Drew Peterson was able to give this network ample fodder for a “world” premiere movie. Even more fortuitous is that Rob Lowe (yes, that Rob Lowe) and that girl from “The Big Bang Theory” (no, not Blossom) are in this soon-to-be classic exploration of bad moviemaking! Huzzah! Teen Mom Got A Gun

Let’s say, you’re a young mother with a three month old baby, living in a trailer in Oklahoma. Also, your husband was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago, and he died on Christmas Day.

A few days later, you’re grieving because you just put your husband in the ground. It’s pitch black outside since the sun goes down so early in the day, and suddenly a man named Justin Martin drops by, claiming that he was a neighbor who wanted to say hello. You don’t know who he is, it’s pitch black outside, you’re alone with the baby, so you don’t open the door. Continue reading

Thief Picks the Wrong Guy to Rob

You know, of all the people to rob at gunpoint, a mixed martial artist and UFC fighter might not be my first choice.

Anthony Miranda, 24, faces a charge of discharging a weapon during a robbery in the Southwest Side attack, which left him wounded in the ankle and badly bruised from his confrontation with the the fighter.

There’s something to be said for choosing your battles wisely. Continue reading

Sandusky: It Was ‘Horseplay’, Not Rape

This was one of the most bizarre interviews I’ve seen in a long time.<!–more–>

Former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky admits to showering with boys, admits to ‘horseplay’ with boys, and, when asked by Bob Costas of NBC News, point-blank, ‘Are you sexually attracted to under-aged boys?’ says “I enjoy young people. I love to be around them… but no, I’m not sexually attracted to young boys,’

From a journalistic standpoint — damn, Bob Costas. I give him Mike Wallace-esque props here. He asked simple, straightforward, direct questions. He also managed to not throw his pen across the room and scream, “SERIOUSLY?”

The Citadel Reveals Abuse Probe

The Citadel, a highly regarded military college in South Carolina, has revealed that it had investigated allegations of sexual abuse of minors but took no action. It said that it is revealing the incident in light of media requests following the Penn State scandal.

In 2007, a former camper of The Citadel Summer Camp accused Louis Neal “Skip” ReVille, a camp counselor of inappropriate misconduct. According to the former camper, ReVille invited him and another boy to his room in 2002, when the camper was fourteen. While in ReVille’s room, the former camper alleged that the three of them watched pornography on a computer and masturbated.

An Interesting Take on Paterno’s Firing

An attorney who represents some of the alleged victims of Sandusky, Ben Andreozzi, is none too pleased with Penn State’s Board of Trustees.

“The board of trustees got it wrong. They should have consulted the victims before making a decision on Mr. Paterno… they should have considered these victims watch TV and are aware of the students’ reaction and may not want to be associated with the downfall of Mr. Paterno.  The school instead elected to do what it felt was in its own best interest at the time.  Isn’t that what put the school in this position in the first place?” I think the attorney has a point here. FBI Report Shows Violent Crime Down, War on Drugs Still Alive in 2010

The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program released their annual report on Monday. The 2010 data shows a continuing downward trend in violent crimes while drug arrests remain high despite the Obama administration’s previously stated wish to change the nation’s drug enforcement policies.

Drug offenses made up the majority of arrests nationwide, with a total of about 1.6 million. A whopping 81.9% of those were for possession, rather than sale or manufacturing. Marijuana offenses led the pack with 45.8% of all drug arrests being for marijuana possession. Continue reading
