In this edition of “I saw it so you don’t have to” I saw The Other Woman this weekend. This movie was touted as the best female comedy since Bridesmaids. I haven’t been to many movies recently, but when a trainer at my gym asked people if anyone was interested in seeing this this weekend, I said sure, why not? I need more social outings with more than just my regular group of friends and I like Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann. I started to read the Grantland review on Friday, but had to stop because things didn’t look good. Continue reading
When I was in college, I had the privilege of spending a few weeks training to be a boxer. The guy I trained with was an amateur, but trained with pros in Chicago. He taught me how to move, how to defend, and how to punch. I’m not saying I could go toe to toe with anyone, but I had a ton of fun doing it. Consequently, I have a soft spot for boxing movies.

Bridesmaids opens with a raunchy sex scene between Jon Hamm and Kristen Wiig that immediately lets you know this movie isn’t going to shy away from the jaw-dropping sight gags that are a trademark of Judd Apatow-produced films.

Thor, the newest film in what I would like to call The Avengers franchise, certainly does a great job of introducing the Norse god and gets you more than excited about the upcoming Avengers movie. The film certainly dazzles thanks to the visual effects department but in terms of storytelling it seems to thunder through (see what I did there?) most of the important plot points. Continue reading
