Some of your favorite songs of yesteryear famously boast of spending lavishly but much like Dr. Evil the dollar amounts don’t impress with our inflated currency in the present time. But what would these songs prices be if we adjusted for inflation? Continue reading

Aubrey Plaza, TMBWITW, decided to let Kathy Griffin pierce her ears on television. Kathy Griffin isn’t some sort of professional ear piercer at a mall kiosk so she did a terrible job. Watch the video after the jump. Continue reading
It was April 30, 2011 when we purchased the Zillapress theme and shortly thereafter that we switched over. That’s way too long to keep one theme so we embarked on a journey to spruce the place up a bit. The design elements that we wanted for the new theme were something that put the emphasis on the posts and stayed away from too much clutter. We also wanted something that was simple yet eye catching. And lastly the 550 pixel wide column that we’ve been constrained to was just too small.
We are pleased to introduce our new theme Nerea written by Keeval who has spent the last few weeks customizing the theme and taking every suggestion and request seriously. Continue reading
Zagat decided to honor the humble hamburger by putting together a list of the best burgers in 25 cities. Great idea, terrible execution. To remedy this burger atrocity we have put together a burger rebuttal to their list and included a few additional cities that love burgers just as much as any other place. Continue reading
Can I use that great image I found on Google to illustrate my blog post? Probably not, but here are the rules for what images you can use.
First a small primer on copyright law. In the US every photograph is copyright protected at the moment the photographer takes the photo. Copyrights have a very long duration. For works created after January 1, 1978 the copyright lasts for the creator’s life plus 70 years. It’s best to assume that any image you find online is newer than that, unless you can prove otherwise. If you were the photographer, then of course you are free to use your own image in any way you want. Continue reading

There’s a dirty little secret in the advertising business, you can use a catchy song if you change it enough. Songs are copyrighted material and the publisher needs to give permission for a song to be used in a television show or commercial. You can spot a copy when it sounds enough like the original that you recognize it but different enough that it’s clear they’ve changed it. Here is an AT&T ad called “His, Hers, Theirs” which uses a song that instantly caught my attention. Continue reading

Sideshows are common in Oakland, but they are not common during daylight hours and they are not common on a major freeway. This scene happened this past Saturday near the Oakland Colosseum. It should be noted that traffic coming to a complete stop for entirely stupid reasons on 880 is a common occurrence. One more video after the jump. Continue reading
The television trope of a leading male character being a fat, schlubby funny guy and having a hot, skinny and sometimes younger wife has been around since at least Ralph and Alice Kramden in The Honeymooners. These differences always strike people as odd because studies have shown that long term couples tend to have similar BMIs. This makes sense when people share meals and exercise habits. Certainly couples exist in the world where the husband is a tubalub and the wife is thin, but in situation comedies it’s almost a requirement.
Since a list didn’t seem to exist, here is the full accounting of television shows featuring a fat husband and a skinny wife*. Continue reading
