We can’t have another Blurred Lines fiasco, people. It’s already past the fourth of July and we don’t have a unifying anthem for the few warm days we will experience this year. It would be cute if Pharrell had waited until June to release Happy, but then he wouldn’t have given us that red carpet moment with the hat, would he have? Continue reading

When I look for music videos, I am always interested in finding productions with a theme of magical realism. What’s magical realism? A genre where magic elements are a natural part in an otherwise mundane, realistic environment. (thanks, wiki wiki wiki!) Here’s a collection of videos that I think fit the bill. Continue reading
Nine Fast Food Facts:
- White Castle, started by J. Walter Anderson and Edgar Waldo “Billy” Ingram, is considered to be the first fast food restaurant. Its major product was a hamburger, which had been sold as sandwiches by street vendors since the 1890s. Continue reading
When we think of love songs, we have a canon that we fall back on, don’t we? Elton John’s “Your Song,” for example. Or if your situation is a little more dire, “Someone Saved My Life Tonight.” Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. Ditto for Three Dog Night’s “Just An Old-Fashioned Love Song.” No one deserves that, do they? Continue reading
This might be Thunderdome-y, and who knows, maybe it might not be. The question at hand is, who, among the celebrity-verse, do you have a non-sexual crush on?
Do you ever turn on one of the rerun channels on TV and gawp at the way things used to be? Shows filmed in the 1960’s and 1970’s have a bevy of corded telephones, stay at home wives and casual racism. Such a wide range of straight white people on the TV back then. Even the degenerate, heroin-addicted criminals on Dragnet look so clean-cut, the men always wearing collared shirts and dress shoes and women in dresses and heels with a big poufy do.
Now let’s say the year is 2063. What about today’s culture (movies, television, pop songs, web videos, Internet memes, lifestyles) do you think will be passe, trite, cliched and past their prime? I have a few guesses. Continue reading
You’re in a movie theater, or you’re giving a presentation at work, and a portal to the past opens up near you. Maybe it’s back to the 1980’s, or the 1880’s, or the 1280’s. If you had the chance, would you jump in, not knowing if you could return to our time?
Since you’re thinking about whether you would go or not, what are your criteria for making the decision? If you go back to the 1980’s, you have no Internet, probably no cellphone, and if your livelihood depends on your skills with technology, how would you support yourself? Continue reading
If you could redesign the human body, what changes would you make?
For example, would you combine the intakes for systems dedicated to eating and breathing? Or would you have a food-hole and an air-hole? And would they be in the same general area, or would they be far apart?
Would you keep the party equipment integrated with waste disposal, or maybe move it elsewhere? How about moving the naughty bits to the hands? A handshake could mean a lot more than just “hello” or “let’s do business.” Or maybe it would still mean “let’s do business.” It’s possible that some things remain the same no matter where they’re located. Continue reading
Thanks for agreeing to come into the office today. Let’s talk about you for a minute. Just hop up on the comfy couch, lean back, close your eyes and get yourself centered.
Today, we’re going to talk about life choices. Sometimes, the universe presents us with choices that we would rather not make. In some situations, we would prefer to make no choice at all, but we have to make choices anyway. Get ready to “steal the rice and roll the dice.” Read the questions, make some decisions and tell us why you chose the thing you did. Continue reading
