Today In Mass Hysteria – Reactions to the Health Care Ruling

In lieu of today’s Sausage, I decided to cover some of the reactions to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the PPACA.

President Obama noted during his comments this afternoon that “Today’s decision was a victory for people all over this country.” As someone noted in the comments, I don’t think anyone would have blamed him if he skipped to the podium.

However, not everyone is quite as joyous and exuberant as our newly vindicated President.

Here’s a roundup of some responses, with the best excerpted below.

Mitt Romney:

“What the court did not do on its last day of session I will do on my first day if I am elected president of the United States. I will act to repeal Obamacare.”

John Boehner:

“The president’s health care law is hurting our economy by driving up health costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire.  Today’s ruling underscores the urgency of repealing this harmful law in its entirety.  What Americans want is a common-sense, step-by-step approach to health care reform that will protect Americans’ access to the care they need, from the doctor they choose, at a lower cost.  Republicans stand ready to work with a president who will listen to the people and will not repeat the mistakes that gave our country ObamaCare.”

Michele Bachmann, on the July 9th vote to repeal the PPACA:

“But that will be for show only.”

Mitch McConnell:

“Today’s decision makes one thing clear: Congress must act to repeal this misguided law.”

Rand Paul, Armchair Constitutional Scholar:

“Just because a couple people on the Supreme Court declare something to be ‘constitutional’ does not make it so. The whole thing remains unconstitutional. While the court may have erroneously come to the conclusion that the law is allowable, it certainly does nothing to make this mandate or government takeover of our health care right.”

Allen West, Concern Troll:

“This is a sad day for Americans, as they will be taxed to pay for benefits they may not need or want as part of the insurance they are forced to buy. With this decision, Congress has been granted infinite taxation power, and there are no longer any limits on what the federal government can tax its citizens to do.”

Sarah Palin, Failed Politician and Famous Uterus:

“Obama lied to the American people. Again. He said it wasn’t a tax. Obama lies; freedom dies.”

Ari Fleischer, Minister of Propaganda from the Bush II Administration:

“I miss Justice Harriet Miers.”

And those aren’t even the REALLY good ones! Hold on to your butts, because this joint is about to get raw, like sushi.

Jim DeMint, doing his best John. C. Calhoun impression:

“This government takeover of health care remains as destructive, unsustainable, and unconstitutional as it was the day it was passed, unread, by a since-fired congressional majority. Now as then, our first step toward real health care reform and economic renewal remains Obamacare’s full repeal, down to the last letter and punctuation mark.

“I urge every governor to stop implementing the health care exchanges that would help implement the harmful effects of this misguided law. Americans have loudly rejected this federal takeover of health care, and governors should join with the people and reject its implementation.”

Louie Gohmert, the bastard child of Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith of Supreme Court analysis:

We still have the issue of Justice Kagan. Either she was totally derelict and negligent in her duties as Solicitor General and had absolutely nothing to do with the most important bill to the president, her boss, or she did have something to do with it, she has violated federal law, and as such she needs to be removed from the Supreme Court. […] I think it’s important to look at Justice Kagan for potential impeachment. […]

And of course, how remiss would I be if I didn’t venture into the seedly underbelly of the conservative interwebs to bring you the most hysterical responses from our good friends at ConservativeByte.com (site motto: “Take a byte out of liberalism.”)? The answer: extremely remiss.

As a note, these are all real, unedited comments. Names omitted to protect the mouth breathing.

P

Yes, healthcare for everyone is God punishing us. If only there were a savior… WHAT’S THAT SOUND? OH MY GOD, THAT’S RON PAUL’S MUSIC!

Romney is the father of Obamacare.  We need a real Patriot like Ron Paul!

Crazy Uncle Liberty(!)!

Why do you think a tylenol costs $8.00 a pill while you’re in the hospital? To offset the costs of those who can’t afford insurance. You act like half the country is on welfare which isn’t true. Many working poor receive benefits, they clean the toilets where you work, empty the garbage, serve you fast food etc.
Quit thinking you have no obligation to your fellow man, you do, the Bible says you do. Get over it, move on and be a REAL American instead of an ignorant nationalist who doesn’t get that Health Care for all is our moral obligation as well as in ALL our own best interests

What the what? That actually made sense, and is a reasonable argument. What the hell is going on here?

USSA – United States of Socialist America.

And yes, this SHOULD bring us closer to God! Christ is coming soon: that’s the shining light in all of this mess in the whole world, not just America! Amen!

Ah, that’s better. Amen indeed.
