A Quick Introduction to the Nu-Disco and Re-Edit Scene

We’re living in the golden age of disco. No really.

In the late 90s a Parisian DJ named Dimitri from Paris started updating long-lost 70s disco and funk (rare grooves) tracks using drum machines and sequencers. The new tracks were usually called “re-edits” by the labels and as the sound caught on over the next few years, the disco revival turned into a new sound entirely.

Who is Fiat’s Target Customer?

I have been watching Fiat’s foray into the US market for the past few months, and every time I see a new commercial for their cars, I am left feeling a bit baffled. Who the heck are these ads speaking to? It is very interesting to see a large company struggling to articulate and define their target customers. Now, I do understand that the ads below are for two different “iterations” of the Fiat 500. However, Fiat didn’t have a brand presence in the US prior to these commercials airing, so it would have been wise for them to use these first few commercials to establish their brand identity. Also, both the Fiat 500 and the Fiat 500 Abarth look pretty much exactly the same, so to the casual observer all of the following commercials could be for the same car. Continue reading

Explore the Beauty of Wood

As humans we’ve had a long relationship with wood. First we lived up in the trees, lounging like a bunch of lazy monkeys feasting on our day’s gatherings as the savanna sun set. Then we discovered we could burn the trees. We had become cooks, pit-masters, and fire-keepers. Then we decided to start making useful things out of trees. We called these “tools,” “weapons,” and “houses.” Then we started making pretty things out of wood, things which were also useful. We called these things “furniture” and “architecture.” Then some people decided that beauty has utility all its own. We called the things they made “sculpture” and “art.” Continue reading
