It’s hard to believe this site has been around for 5 years. I was not around at the VERY beginning, but it’s felt like home since I got here. What I’m going to do this week is take everyone down musical memory lane. Continue reading

I was looking back at the posts I’ve written for CT while applying for a Media Pass to this year’s Hangout Fest and realized that a) I haven’t written anything since August and b) I haven’t done one of these posts since May. Continue reading
By now most of you have probably heard Megan Trainor’s “All About the Bass“, her wholesome, doo-woppy ode to self-love (or at least, love of bodacious butt.) Continue reading
For the third year in a row, I’m going to volunteer myself for a liveblog of the MTV Video Music Awards. I will disclose now that I am traveling and if I’m delayed, this will just turn into a VMA OT. I hope to be with you all for this shit show. ETA: Flight was on time! I’m here. Let’s do this, bitches!
Here are the nominees for a few of the most coveted awards:
Video of the Year:
- Beyoncé ft. Jay Z, “Drunk In Love”
- Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX, “Fancy”
- Miley Cyrus, “Wrecking Ball”
- Pharrell Williams, “Happy”
- Sia, “Chandelier”

It would be cute if Pharrell had waited until June to release Happy, but then he wouldn’t have given us that red carpet moment with the hat, would he have? Continue reading
John Mayer posted his rendition of Beyonce’s “XO” to SoundCloud on Friday. Pretty good if you ask me. Sounds like it could have been a John Mayer song. Continue reading
Hands down music festivals are my favorite type of concert (well, except for the FREE concerts featuring an artist you actually like). You spend one chunk of money for multiple days of music. If we go way back to 1997, my first concert was also a festival, albeit it only lasted one day. My next few experiences with festivals was as an employee. For Jazz Fest and Essence Fest in New Orleans and then a few years later for Lollapalooza in Chicago. Continue reading
Have you ever realized that you had been singing the words to a popular song completely wrong for years? I went the longest time before my older sister corrected me for singing the wrong words to Bruce Springsteen’s Brilliant Disguise. I was singing, “Is that you, Baby or just a brick in disguise?” instead of “Is that you, Baby or just a brilliant disguise?” Continue reading
When I look for music videos, I am always interested in finding productions with a theme of magical realism. What’s magical realism? A genre where magic elements are a natural part in an otherwise mundane, realistic environment. (thanks, wiki wiki wiki!) Here’s a collection of videos that I think fit the bill. Continue reading
