I love a fact-based brawl followed by the clanging of glasses. I don't take fools lightly and they don't usually take a liking to me anyhow. Yes, I have three wonderful children, but they aren't so wild anymore. Just waiting for/dreading the teen years when my name will be accurate once again.

Gins You Should Drink

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jidziKYG9jk

Gin is an interesting spirit in that there are people that love it (cough, cough Ofkie) and those who have had a bad experience with it. Despite having a few gangry moments (gin + angry = gangry), I do love gin. Since Saturday is World Gin Day and I spent the better part of Thursday writing gin tasting notes. Here are a couple of my favorite gins that should be readily available in most areas in the US. Continue reading

QOTD: How are you celebrating National Tequila Day?

1134221856_6a5bf69719Today is National Tequila Day and there are numerous ways you can help celebrate this important national holiday. Whether you are a straight up, on the rocks, in a cocktail or a frozen margarita kind of person, today is the day to show your support for this alcohol originating south of the border.

Tequila is a distilled beverage made from the blue agave plant. The most important thing to check when it comes to your tequila is that it is made with 100% agave. The other stuff is called mixtos and they are crap — loaded with sugars and added coloring. Mexican laws demand that the Tequila must be made in the state of Jalisco and a few other limited areas.

Check your labels and get your glasses.

Daily Habits of the Wealthy

6355220839_982b1263d5_mAccording to Tom Corley a financial planner who studied 350 rich and poor people, wealthy people have some daily habits in common. He wrote the book, Rich Habits – The Daily Success Habits of Wealthy Individuals. So what are the daily habits that the wealthy have in common? Some are quite interesting…. Continue reading

Student Loans Are the Ultimate in Predatory Lending

6304808136_a4465d1240_mToday’s doubling of the government student loan interest rate led to some interesting conversations for me this weekend. A good friend likened those government and private loans to the whole sub-prime mortgage predatory lending scheme: encouraging the loading up of debt by financially unsophisticated people. I think he might be right.

How to Pop a Bottle of Champagne Without Being a Schmuck

Unless your goal is to spray people in the face with champagne or launch the cork into a friend’s eye, opening up a bottle of bubbly isn’t a dramatic event. Momof3 is here to help you harness your inner savoir faire versus your inner frat boy.

First of all, you need to know that the ‘pop’ of the champagne cork should not be a big pop like you hear in the movies. If you are doing it right, it will sound more like an ‘angel’s sigh.’ Additionally, never, ever use a corkscrew on a champagne bottle. You could seriously hurt yourself. Continue reading

What I Learned As a Result of Sandy

It was often hard to remember, but I was one of the lucky ones. Very lucky ones, in fact.

My sole issue was that I didn’t have power. While I did have a generator for keeping my fridge cold and sump pumps working, it did not connect to my hardwired furnace. So the house was bone chillingly cold. So cold that despite having power and heat for over 18 hours now, I cannot shake the shiver in my bones. Steaming baths, hot showers and a trip to my health club’s sauna have not helped. Still, I know how lucky I am. Continue reading
