The Daily Sausage – Monday Edition

Mitt Romney: Fact Checker, Warren/Brown II: Warren/Brown Harder, the real RINOs, the circular firing squad begins, financial heroin, the next narrative, Paul Ryan: no time for the jibba jabba, Obama’s 11th Dimensional Chess, #RomneyShambles becomes #GOPShambles, About Mr. Sproul, Church of England, Florida Republican Volunteers, and something relevant to our interests.

Welcome to the Daily Sausage.

First up, Doghouse Riley with “The Joke is that “Mitt Romney: Fact Checker” isn’t the funny part”.

So to recap: the President a) refuses to acknowledge that insurance-paid contraception is actually abortion; b) refuses to admit that for-profit operations which receive federal funds but are owned by a particular cult are, in fact, churches, because 1) Karl Rove and 2) the Constitution clearly say so. And that c) this qualifies as “unprecedented”, despite the fact that the identical thing has occurred in American history, and occurs today with some of those same institutions under state law, and has actually been topped, unquestionably, by other restrictions on religious expression (notably the anti-Mormon laws that preceded Utah statehood).

But yes, again, Mitt. Please listen to Karl Rove. The man’s a genius.

Please do.

Next up: Charles P. Pierce on Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren’s next debate.

You have to give Senator McDreamy this one: He’s managed to shake up the Massachusetts U.S. senatorial campaign without moving the numbers very much in his own direction. It’s like watching the magician pull out the tablecloth without smashing the punchbowl.

Can anyone confirm Scott Brown is still a Republican? I haven’t heard him mention it. At all.

John Weaver is back with his take on the real RINOs:

Ahhh, you raise the dreaded RINO word. Is now the time to interject Aaron Sorkin’s Will McAvoy and his definition of those who throw around that word so often?

There are millions of people like me that believe in and want to be of a party that wants limited and efficient government, cherishes and defends freedom of all our citizens in “their pursuit of happiness,” understands, and acknowledges and seeks a government that also assists those in need. Republicans who can trace their ideological support for freedom from Lincoln through to Reagan are not RINOs. Those who have hijacked portions of the party, scream the loudest from radio booths and hurl epithets in blogs and promote a form of freedom that is anything but — they are the true RINOs. We should have a longer discussion about this as we get nearer November, as I suspect the Republican Party will engage — actually must engage — in a conflict to resolve this split.

It’s really not that hard. Half the party is nuts. The other half needs recalibration.

Johnathan Chait kicks off the post-election circular firing squad, asking “Whose idea was it to nominate Romney, anyway?”

Hint: the answer is “Everyone with a vested interest in seeing the campaign go to at least October before flaming out, rather than flaming out before the conventions.

Paul “The Keynesian Killer” Krugman is back with an excellent article on how debt and austerity are like financial heroin.

Krugman’s argument is that we forget these things, as a people, and are destined to repeat them until we remember them. Makes sense to me.

Ed from Gin and Tacos has a piece on the “Next Narrative”, which might as well be titled “What I did on my permanent vacation after I lost the Presidency to a black guy, by Mitt Romney”

Paul Ryan says it would take too long to explain Mitt Romney’s tax plan. You know what, Paul? I’ll make you a deal, If you have a live presentation or something where you go through Mitt’s tax plan and explain it, I will watch it. All of it. Just tell me when and where.

Obama is playing 11th dimensional chess. Possibly with small white mice.

Romney is tanking the GOP’s chances in the Senate. Good, now take the House with you.

Some background on Nathan Sproul, the Republican Operative engaging in massive voter registration fraud.

Church of England calls on bankers to repent for role in financial crisis. I posted that, just so I can post this.

A volunteer for the Florida Republican party called a senior citizen and said the President “is a Muslim”. Also, “he’s got a socialistic view on the government”, and “he’ll get rid of your Medicare”.

The kicker? “Pay attention to Fox News. If you can get out and watch that movie 2016, do so, it has a lot of really good information. Just really read the newspapers and Fox News will help you.”

WEEEEEEEE. Welcome to Wingnutopia.
