So there’s this thing. Maybe we’ll call it 80izing. This is when you take something inherently 1980’s and you put it in something current like a modern day commercial or a scene on Community.
And for the most part we’re okay with that. It usually causes a quick swath of nostalgia to go through you, or perhaps you become awash with giggles upon seeing something long forgotten just show up inexplicably in a familiar format. You’re taken aback. You’re off guard. It’s almost like someone rolled out a clip from Comic Strip Live with a quippy comic (Tim Allen) standing in front of a faux brick wall while wearing a heinous tie and making that stupid grunt noise. Or, even better, perhaps it’s Gallagher hitting watermelons all over the place and thoroughly scaring the organic water chestnuts out of a bunch of yuppies. HA! We can’t see how his Sledge-O-Matic shtick could work in modern day, because really, who’s going to pay to be pelted with fruit? But this, yes this seems like a rather apt update. Now do kale and cilantro!
