Nuns on the Bus Tour Kicks Off in Iowa

You Go Girl!
Proving that nuns are the best thing about the Catholic religion, a group of nuns recently kicked-off a nine-state bus tour to highlight the disastrous consequences of the Paul Ryan budget plan on the low and middle classes. The proposed Ryan budget derives 62% of its cuts from social welfare programs. The Vatican has recently called out U.S. nuns, asking them to stop focusing on issues of income inequality and economic justice (which if I am remembering my New Testament correctly, comprises about 95% of Jesus’ teachings) and speak out instead on the issues of abortion, gay marriage, and contraception (I am pretty sure Jesus stayed mum on those topics).

The badass nuns are sticking it to the man, however, and are continuing the bus tour, planning stops at the offices of Ryan and John Boehner, both outspoken Catholics that seem to have forgotten their Sunday School teachings. The nuns are also stopping at food pantries, shelters, hospitals, and schools in order to highlight the repercussions of the cuts.

As a product of a fantastic Catholic school run by nuns, I salute these fine women and commend them for sticking to Jesus’ message of caring for the poor, the sick, and the needy.
