Monday Political Sausage

ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOBANKER.

“Of, By, and For The People” – Ed Burmila (Gin and Tacos)

Ed makes a tremendously valid point here. What ever happened to captains of Industry sweating bullets after being dragged in front of Congress to explain how their companies had royally screwed up? It wasn’t that long ago that Congress shamed the CEOs of the major American auto manufacturers into driving from Detroit to Washington in a ritual act of self-flagellation. Jamie Dimon basically got fellated live on C-SPAN. If it were any more graphic, they’d have to charge by the minute.

“Senators Grovel, Embarrass Themselves at Dimon Hearing” – Matt Taibbi (Rolling Stone)

Taibbi gives a blow by blow of some of the more egregious fellations.

“Praise for Obama on Immigration from the Religious Right” – Molly Ball (The Atlantic)

It’s almost as if this is good policy, both politically and morally. Of course, there are plenty on the Right that are already howling about “amnesty”.

“Right gives GOP hell on Health Care, Taxes as crisis loom” – Sahil Kapur (TPM)

And this is what happens when a political party becomes locked in to a zero-compromise mindset. The gears stop working and get sheared off, and suddenly you have a runaway political machine out of control, belching smoke and fire, right up until it crashes in to something.

“Montana GOP convention features ‘Obama Library’ riddled with fake bullet holes” – Pema Levy (TPM)

This perfectly encapsulates every awful thing in the GOP today. Racism, misogyny, inability to accept basic facts, threats of violence… It’s all there.

“Average CEO pay at largest companies grew twice as fast as worker wages in 2011, rising to $14.5 million” – Travis Waldron (ThinkProgress)

Posted without comment:

The average Fortune 500 CEO now makes 380 times more than the average worker, as CEO pay has grown more than 127 times faster than worker pay over the last 30 years.

“Senior Citizens lost $2.9 billion to financial abuse in 2010” – Travis Waldron (ThinkProgress)

If only there were a group whose job it were to protect consumers from fraud and abuse.
