Dow Closes Above 13,000

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed today above 13,000 for the first time since May 2008. If that date sounds familiar, it should — that was four months before the current financial crisis was declared.

The DJIA closed up 23 points Tuesday to finish at 13,005. This means that since the beginning of the year, it has gone up more than six percent.

The Dow first broke 13,000 on April 25, 2007 and the last time it ended the day above 13,000 was May 19, 2008.

One more thing to think about — today’s number means the Dow is less than 1,200 points away from an all-time high.
