Canadian Political Cover Up

The recent right wing wins in the Canadian elections seem to have had a negative impact on tolerance for the good things in life. The Puritans that run the parliamentary website have deemed cleavage to be unbecoming of a politician. Though this shouldn’t come as a surprise given that the supreme court wears chin high shirts to ensure against any possible cleavage.

Even though she is a member of the Canadian Parliament, at 29 Rathika Sitsabaiesan can easily be classified as one of the “kids these days” and prone to doing things like lingering on lawns or wearing shirts that dip below chin level. Continue reading

Your Mom Was Probably a Terrible Cook

Tom Colicchio once said something along the lines of “We have blind spots when it comes to our childhood comfort foods.” This is so true. I didn’t realize this until I was first living with my husband. I had some free time and I decided to whip up dinner for the two of us. It was a cold, cloudy day so, naturally, I wanted to make something hearty and comforting. So, I turned to a childhood recipe and proudly served the results to him when he got home from work. Is it Possible for Fox News to be Anything More than a Right-Wing Shout Factory?

Fox News CEO Roger Ailes seems to think so. Or is this purely a red herring since the news channel is largely known for shouting heads Bill O’Reilly, Pundit Sarah Palin, and mean-spirited minotaur, Sean Hannity. Yeah, none of these people seems primed to take a more centrist viewpoint. However, according to Ailes, he is quietly repositioning the cable-news channel.

What exactly does this mean? Continue reading

QOTD: What’s Your Worst Clothing Disaster?

Example: the time last month I tried some clothes on at a store. Spent the rest of the day with the zip of my pants undone. Fairly standard, happens to everyone.

Getting out of the car after running quite a few errands. Notice I have my slippers on.

Friend of mine, a very beautiful woman with a glorious figure, once walked many, many blocks of Yonge Street (a slightly raunchy street in Toronto) with the buckle of her fancy, rather gaudy belt entirely undone, the shiny parts of it bobbing and flashing in the sun. She didn’t notice until she was back home. Continue reading

Spa Treatment Goes Horribly Wrong

I consider myself a spa-savvy gal. Nothing’s better than a good exfoliation of my body followed by an amazing deep tissue massage.I’m rather adventurous when it comes to my spa treatments; I’ll try about anything. Until I read this.

The most cringe-worthy line: “I tried to hold it and take it out, but the eel was too slippery to be held and it disappeared up my penis.”

This article made my wheels turn a bit. I wonder if any of you have had a bad spa experience? Feel free to share your vagazzling, happy-endings gone awry and placenta facial stories here. Comment.

You Can’t Afford Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewels

The incomparably beautiful Elizabeth Taylor accumulated one of the most spectacular private jewelry collections in the world. The jewels and other items of Taylor’s will be auctioned by Christie’s Auction House in New York on December 13th and 14th of this year. Some of the more renown pieces are currently on a global tour, including the famous 33.19-carat Asscher-cut Krupp Diamond, later known as the Elizabeth Taylor Diamond, a gift from her former husband Richard Burton. The history of the jewelry pieces are what make them even more compelling, given they were often gifts from one of her famous husbands.

Personally, I would go with something understated like this, though the tiara is also very appealing. See more of the collection here. The auction is expected to raise up to $30 million but like that of the Debbie Reynolds Hollywood auction, that number is likely to be much higher. A portion of the proceeds from the sale going towards the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. Comment.
