Five Films to Watch With(out) Mom this Mother’s Day Weekend


I was writing out my Mother’s Day card, and suddenly I was thinking back to Mother’s Day 2004. That year, I took mom to see Kill Bill: Vol. 2 at the movie theater. She loved it (she had already seen and enjoyed Vol. 1). My mother’s taste in movies is probably not typical for a lady her age–she has adventurous taste. Although it might seem like an odd choice for the holiday (murder, revenge, kungfu), one of Kill Bill‘s major themes (especially in Vol. 2 is motherhood.

Watching Shahs of Sunset with Your Mom

This Sunday afternoon, after sleeping in till 11 (it was sweet), gorging myself at the Camino Real’s mother’s day buffet and having a couple of mimosas, I invited mom to drop by and watch an episode of Shahs of Sunset.

Didn’t every kid have moments where they believed they’d been switched at birth or adopted? Create some fantasy that their parents were actually rich star-crossed lovers that were counting the days until they could reveal themselves to you and take you to their private island with its own Disneyland and 24 hour ice cream service?
