Your ‘Epic Battle of Good vs. Evil’ NFL Divisional Round Preview

TebowThe Wild Card round has come and gone and as I correctly predicted it was pretty blah, with the exception of one game. The Giants and Texans spanked the Falcons and Bengals respectively. The Broncos won in the shortest overtime ever over a battered Steelers team, and the Saints decided to run up the score on the Lions (more on this later). Coming up in the divisional round, we have several rematches from the regular season and one that was played during the preseason that even has a bit of a story line. Let’s just dive right in to each game: Continue reading →

Texans Are Required to Have Fetuses Shown or Described to Them

On Tuesday the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed an injunction that stopped Texas’ restrictive sonogram law. Under the reaffirmed  law, abortion providers are required to show or describe an ultrasound image of a woman’s pregnancy. The only exceptions to the law are if the fetus was conceived by rape or incest or if the fetus has an abnormality. Women can decline to view the sonogram, but she must listen to the doctor’s description. Continue reading →

You’re Going to Want an Ectaco jetBook

Engadget is at CES, reporting on all the exciting new tech gadgets. They played with the jetBook, Ectaco’s new color e-reader. It’s not just a color e-reader, it’s a color e-reader with a Triton Color E Ink display, a first in the crowded e-reader market.

Already on the market in Eastern Europe and Asia (the product is marketed with an educational slant on Ectaco’s site), jetBook will soon be available globally. As Engadget notes, the colors are a bit muted, but this is still an exciting step forward in E Ink technology. As more and more tablets (with backlit displays) vie for consumers’ money, E Ink-based readers must continue to evolve to stay competitive. Check out Engadget’s hands-on post to see more pics and watch a video.

Justin Bieber to Star in ‘A Very Vanilla Sky’

Perhaps, when a five year old Justin Bieber was chillin’ in Canada’s version of Section Eight housing, oh, right around Christmas 2001, his mom scored tickets to see Tom Cruise Narcissism Vehicle Supreme, also known as Vanilla Sky.

Since the movie is awfully hard to understand, and its director, Cameron Crowe, never really gave the audience a definite answer as to what the film is (lucid dream? anesthetic hallucination?), perhaps young Justin gets obsessed with the movie. What then? How does the Biebs resolve this obsession?

Apparently the correct answer is, become famous and then wear a sparkly gold mask in public. But don’t, as the video below explains, cover up any distinctive tattoos, because then, how will people know you’re famous if they can’t identify you? Continue reading →

The Crashes and Craziness of Dakar 2012

The 2012 Dakar Rally is going down this month in Argentina, Chile and (for the first time ever) Peru. So what the hell is Dakar? It’s a multi-stage long distance off-road car, truck and motorcycle race that used to be held between Paris and Dakar, Mauritania. Since 2009 has been held in South America due to concerns about terrorism in Africa (but they kept the name Dakar anyway).

Much like its Mexican cousin, the Baja 1000, Dakar is notoriously dangerous for both racers and the alcohol-fueled lunatics who line the courses to get a close-up view of 1000 hp rally trucks at full throttle. So not surprisingly, it’s a treasure trove of great videos. Let’s take a look.  Continue reading →
