Generation gaps, misunderstandings, and firm convictions about what the lives of young people should be about have emerged through the ages where shouts of “Get a haircut! Stop listening to all that rock & roll music! That damn rap is just noise! Why do you text so much?!” and the like have been the requisite commentary that’s followed most every generation. I’m sure at some point God asked Jesus what the deal was with sandals. Yet, as we move further forward, and technology offers us something new about every few years, just how far apart are we really? You thought I forgot about Craigslost? Hell and no!
Slim Pickens and I spent hours this week trawling the bottom of the human slime pond that is Craigslist to bring you another round of soul-crushing-yet-hilarious stories about JO knife fights, sack-punching fetishes and manhood camping the human condition.
Let’s get to the fuckery!
(Craigslost is NSFW but there’s no nudity, just sexual language.)

Will Allen, chief executive officer of Growing Power, a 40-acre fleet of urban farms outside of Milwaukee, believes in building ecology, minds and community through farming. “If people can grow safe, healthy, affordable food, if they have access to land and clean water, this is transformative on every level in a community. I believe we cannot have healthy communities without a healthy food system.”
What started as a small business venture evolved into a small nonprofit through which Allen taught youth where their food came from by having them participate in his farm activities. This eventually transformed into a major multifaceted organization with a $6-million budget that teaches people all over the world about urban and sustainable farming. Continue reading

Shortly after groups such as the Supremes and the Ronettes released their best work, British bands such as the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, the Kinks and the Who released albums in the U.S. Compared to the material that had previously dominated the American pop charts, the rhythm and blues-influenced music of the British Invasion groups sounded fresh, aggressive, radical and masculine. The musical climate of the country changed quickly and it further cemented a generational divide between the kids who embraced this new rock music and their older siblings and parents who found it repellant. The British Invasion hinted at pop culture’s future; girl groups, teen idols and doo wop invoked its past. Girl groups began performing poorly on the pop charts and quickly fell out of favor. The Spirit of 4/20, a hilarious new Funny or Die video, gives the stoner day of celebration the Scrooge treatment, imagining a world where Birkenstocks are hung by the chimney with care. While I can’t say I’ve ever celebrated this particular faux-holiday, it got me thinking. We know Crasstalkers do real holidays right, but what non-traditional milestones have you busted out the cake and streamers for? (Or the booze and uncomfortable clothing.) Continue reading
The other day Crasstalk superstar commenter MonkeyBiz was informing us that he and his three roommates (yes, I count Leo) have opened their hot tub. You all congratulated him on his new, swinging jacuzzi-based lifestyle and while I too was happy for Mister Biz, I felt a deep sense of conflict.
I had something to get off my chest. I’ve kept the feelings bottled up inside me for so long that I’d forgotten the joys of a three-hour hot tub soak. I’m writing this today because my fellow survivors have stories to tell — stories about 6 to 10 days of mild discomfort, stories of cool dudes with shiny t-shirts and bangin’ ass chicks with Kanye glasses who have been relegated to the shadows of society for up to a week and a half. My friends, I’m writing this today because I am a Hot Tub Rash survivor and this is my story. Continue reading
Easter / Passover season has drawn to a close yet again. No more melting Peeps in the microwave for another year. Sad, right? But we can still ooh and ahh at all of our creativity putting it all together! As we said, the judges aren’t going to do any judging this time around. Rather, we wanted to enjoy the holidays with you all. So let’s get started! Continue reading
Few decisions are as important to a presidential candidacy than the choice of a running mate. A Vice President can make or break… okay, mostly break, (I’m looking, and laughing, at you, Sarah.), a campaign. There are several names starting to attach to the Romney campaign, but there are oh-so-many options. Let’s help!
Who do you think Romney should name and what would they bring to the Republican campaign? Continue reading
