Queens Fifth-Grader Prohibited from Delivering Same-Sex Marriage Speech


Kameron Slade is in fifth grade at PS 195 in the Rosedale section of Queens. Given the freedom to choose a topic for a speech competition, young Kameron chose to write about same-sex marriage. He won his class’s competition and was expected to deliver his winning speech in a competition being held school-wide. The school’s principal put a stop to that, telling Kameron’s mother that the speech was inappropriate. Continue reading

What the Hell is Going on with Sweden Lately?

I’ve always thought of Sweden as sort of like a window into the future of human life. It’s a bizarre place where poverty is virtually non-existent, the pop music is scarily well-produced and the furniture is appropriately minimalistic.

Which is why I was so surprised recently to watch Sweden collectively lose its fucking shit. This week has made me reconsider the fact that maybe the Swedes are just as crazy, arrogant and insipid as the rest of us. Maybe they don’t have it all figured out after all.  Continue reading
