Coming Attractions: Another Happy Day, More Proof That Nothing Good Ever Happens at Weddings

You know what Hollywood thinks happens at weddings? Well, if it’s a small indie film, mostly some drunk and/or high relative will appear to rain Rehab-escaping havoc on just everyone. ::Red Band Trailer:: Yeah, that means cursing and stuff.

In this dysfunctional family drama, mom of three, Ellen Barkin is traveling to Annapolis, Maryland of all places to attend her eldest son’s wedding. Troubled son, played by sure to be new indie fave, Ezra Miller has just been sprung from the Rehab and is along for the ride. And as is typical for the Rehabber Who Ruins Everything movies, he’s none too happy about it. He’s snarky, a bit destructive, disruptive, and seemingly an all-around joy to behold. What else would you have happen at some stuck up dude’s wedding all the way in Annapolis, Maryland…everyone eating pigs in a blanket and complimenting each other’s teeth whitening? Well, no, duh! Not in this movie about people who hate each other!

The typically awesome Thomas Haden Church plays the dad, and like spotting a disappearing honey bee, Demi Moore shows up as his shrill, awful, yet beautiful wife. There’s even a Striptease joke somewhere in here, HA!

It’s interesting to see Demi playing the jerk wife. We’re not used to her being obnoxious and irritating, since she only does two movies a decade. Well, no, correction…we’re not used to her being obnoxious and irritating in movies. In life, well, you know. This could become a good thing for Demi.

The fragile looking Kate Bosworth (she really is shrinking before our eyes) plays the equally disturbed daughter in this cycle of a family disaster. The word “volatile is bandied about while discussing the waif-like Bosworth. So we should all prepare for a meltdown of some sort. Rounding things out is the enigmatic Ellen Burstyn who appears as Barkin’s mother, and we have a good idea that family secrets will unfold when she gets rolling along. It’s always the mother who has all the good info on what makes everyone in the family so completely batshit insane. Plan on lots of screaming, crying, some potential hair pulling, and an awesome joke about why you should never call your son a Son of a Bitch.

Another Happy Day opens November 18th and we should all probably go see it. Well, you know, if you haven’t already lived this whole scene at some recent wedding. Cheers!
