First Ever Crasstalk Recipe Contest Results

OK FOOD SLORES! Here is your First Ever Crasstalk Recipe Contest First Ever Winner! We had some formidable, formidable talent! Would Homoviper NurseWrestle Tacky_Tick? Or, would Greenwitch_Refugee try to cast a spell over the Shes_a_Rainbow. OR, maybe the Grand Inquisitor would drill Ross, MissLinda, BaldwinP and the others. Because nobody expects the Grand Inquisition.

As stated in the criteria, we looked at each of your dishes for not only budget consciousness but taste appeal, creativity, freshness and cooking techniques. During our scoring, the judges made a note of the final cost, gave each contestant a score from 1-10 in each category, and added bonus points: 2 extra for food, 1 extra for drinks. Then we tallied them up, creating our winner! Let’s take a look at how everyone did:

MissLinda – 120 points / Budget: $9.42
GT_Cosita:  Mouth watering, and you managed to include wine.
Launie K.:  Miss Linda took us on a trip through Chinatown and showed us all why we are shopping at the wrong stores. Did you see that receipt? Did you see that entree?

Ross – 124 points / Budget: $9.53
GT_Cosita:  Corn salsa sounds incredibly fresh.
Launie K.:  Ross made a budget conscious meal that served a dual purpose of being healthy and decadent.  And  Mrs. Ross helped him by making one fine looking salsa, how adorable is that?

Homoviper – 124 points / Budget: $10.00
GT_Cosita:  My favorite dessert, plus your cheesecake didn’t crack. I am jealous!
Launie K:  Despite the epic trash talking from this contestant, he turned out food that was decidedly angelic.  There was a great mix of fresh and inexpensive ingredients,  and there was also cheesecake.

Shes_a_Rainbow – 125 points / Budget: $ 7.11
GT_Cosita:  Great comfort food pairing, the dessert looks particularly appetizing.
Launie K:  Comfort food was highlighted in this submission, and if you watch certain celebrity chefs, comfort food can come across as uninspired – but these entries were anything but that. Excellent use of frozen and fresh ingredients, and the continuity was fantastic.

Tacky_Tick – 127 points / Budget: $9.86
GT_Cosita:  Great twist on traditional cacciatore, plus great for people with food allergies and sensitivities.
Launie K:  Not only working with the confines of the contest rules but also working with a gluten free menu, Tacky_Tick brought home fresh and delicious creativity.

BaldwinP – 129 points / Budget: $8.50
GT_Cosita:  Simple and easy to make, sounds delish.
Launie K.:  Wowed with his savory and sweet fresh ingredients, and he explained how to make an upper class English dessert for pennies. Servicey!

Grand Inquisitor – 129 points / Budget: $9.63
GT_Cosita:  Creative use of the grill on the dessert, plus lamb is a risky ingredient to use.
Launie K.:  Submitting a dinner and dessert of  rustic stew and grilled fruit, our benevolent overlord proved she’s as handy in the kitchen as she is around the guillotine .

NurseWretched – 130 points / Budget: $9.59
GT_Cosita:  My favorite combination of dishes, loved the French theme throughout.
Launie K.:  The continuity was fantastic, and the dishes were very creative for working within a budget. Also, the directions were clear and concise and there were local ingredients involved. I wasn’t joking when I said that the bar had been set for the dishes to follow!

Greenwitch_Refugee – 131 points / Budget: $ 9.57
GT_Cosita:  Going all out with app, main course, dessert, and beer without blowing the budget.
Launie K:  Bowled us over with a delicious three course meal that even included beer.

And the winner is revealed: TIPSYHAUSFRAU!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

tipsyhausfrau – 134 points  / Budget: $9.56
GT_Cosita:  The photos, the presentation, the recipe. WOW.
Launie K:  Creative use of ingredients, excellent budget-conscious items (reusing the wonton wrappers in the entree and dessert), some fresh ingredients along with packaged ingredients, and the use of photos made for fantastic clarity in the preparation. Also, the name of the dessert was very clever.

Hope you all had as much fun as we did! On a personal note, I am taking a ton of inspiration away from all of you and your hard efforts. And in the end, like I said, this was all about my purely selfish motive to get you all to cook dinner for me. Or at least tell me what to cook for dinner.

THANK YOU EVERYONE SO MUCH FOR PARTICIPATING!
