The use of animals in public performances, whether it be at Sea World or a Circus, is a taboo subject. I have no qualms with saying I’m against it, outright. The stories of abused and neglected animals in these situations are a plenty, but the following tale of Mary the elephant is far more morbid than anything I’ve ever read. I’ve cautioned you once about the content of this article, and I’ll do it one more time: this is not a story with a happy ending; it is one of disgusting injustice. Continue reading
Jarrod did a post about awful and annoying songs, which inspired bbqcornnuts to create a bad song contest. In the comments of that post, it became clear that there were some bad songs that we actually really liked, even though we acknowledged they were horrible. So bbqcornnuts and I came together to talk about those songs specifically, and here they are, some the bad songs we love.
Earlier this week I had the pleasure of going with a friend to see Chinese-American author Lisa See give a lecture at a nearby library. (Woot-woot for library public lectures! Check out to see who your own public library is bringing in. I’ve seen people from Nobel physicists to Ray Bradbury.)
See is the author of several novels (most recently Shanghai Girls and Dreams of Joy) and a sort of biography of her family’s immigration-to-America experience, On Gold Mountain.
