Dance Music For Jaded Ex-Ravers

I haven’t done a music post in a while so let’s get down tonight. Here’s a selection of tasty dance music. Get your glow sticks ready, strap on your Pikachu backpack and start melting the Vick’s Vapo-Rub because it’s gonna be a workout.

Here are 10 dance choons I’m digging right now. I wish I could say these are all the newest tracks of the moment, but most of them are six months to a year old (that’s fucking ancient in the dance music world).

Yelle – “Safari Disco Club”
Notice the adorable asymmetrical hairdo. I don’t know why exactly, but I love that every single time. Appelle-moi, Yelle.

Video Violence – “Video Violence”
A sweet gutter-electro tune out of Japan (I think). This video will melt your brain into glow-in-the-dark lava. I want to live in that world.

Kid Kenobi – “Breaker’s Revenge”
Kid Kenobi is an Australian producer who wanted to take us back to his 80s roots with a tasty jam involving some sick vintage samples no one has heard in a while. More of this, please.

Hardy Hard & Lady Waks feat. Mr. X – “Call It Minimal” (Rogue Elements remix)
A cool vocal sample, a razor-sharp bassline and lots and lots of cowbell. Fuck yes.

Agent-K – “Sweet Sweet Love”
Bens turned me on to Agent-K kick recently and I’ve been bumping his ish nonstop just about every single day. Florida breaks is the greatest music ever. Throw in a Barrington Levy sample and you’ve got me.

Nitro – “Violence” (Rogue Elements remix)
Another 90s-throwback choon with lots of excellent acid breaks-y flavor.

Santogold – “Say A-ha” (Tom Neville’s 24 Carat Vocal Remix)
An early 80s-flavored disco track that brings the creepiness. I think the remix could have used the vocals better, but I love what he did with the synths.

Loadstar – “Hit the Ground Running”
Bens told me he’d burn Crasstalk down if I didn’t BRING SUMTING FOR THE JUNGLIST MASSIVE. Not a problem, Bens. We love jungle here. Now put down the lighter lighter lighter.

Katy B – “Broken Record”
It’s official, dubstep has finally been allowed out its musical dungeon and allowed to join the mainstream. This is not a bad thing.

Rusko – “Everyday”
They’re even giving dubstep big huge buildups. It’s trance-ified dubstep, which should royally suck but this track is too much fun to hate.
