Collected Santorum Dribblings: Volume Two

Hey there happy campers, it’s time for round two of The Santorum Slide, a panty-wrecking skidmark from the likely Republican nominee.

As Newton Leroy “Newt” Gingrich torpedoes his own campaign, and Willard Milton “Mittens” Romney throws his chance to be the Republican nominee down the well, it appears that Richard John Santorum is leaving a slick brown trail everywhere he goes.

Rick has been busy of late! As mentioned recently around here, Santorum’s SuperPac spent about five hundred thousand dollars to sponsor Tony Raines in Sunday’s race in Daytona. That’s a lot of adult diapers, Rick.

Of course Ricky can’t miss an opportunity for a pull quote, and here’s his slippery words for this event: “I like how Tony Raines turned some heads last weekend with his qualifying run and we’d like to keep turning heads too. I think we’re both looking for a win in the end.” Yep, everybody is sure Santorum wants a “win” in “the end.” Take that as you will. We will be turning our heads in any direction but Ricky’s.

Also in the news, Santorum says he doesn’t believe in separation of church and state. Really, Rick. You’re reaching with that one. Check this out: “I don’t believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute,” Santorum said in an interview from Michigan on ABC’s “This Week.” He followed that blunder with this gem: “The First Amendment means the free exercise of religion and that means bringing people and their faith into the public square.” Allrighty then, Ricky Poo — so it’s OK for you to exercise your religion on everyone else, but if someone’s faith is not the same as yours, well they had better hop to it and get saved, huh? Smooth move, ex-lax.

Moving into the hallowed halls of colleges and universities nationwide, Santorum blooped out another doozie: At a campaign event in Troy, Michigan on Saturday, Rick Santorum called President Obama a “snob” for wanting all Americans to go to college. Here’s the full quote: “President Obama once said he wants everybody in America to go to college. What a snob! There are good, decent men and women who go out and work hard every day and put their skills to test that aren’t taught by some liberal college professor.” We have some teachers in our ranks here — why don’t you weigh in as to how many of your colleagues you would consider “liberal?”

In case you are sitting on your stool, softening your opinion of Slicky Ricky, check out Russ Feingold (former Wisconsin Senator) and what he had to say about the candidate: “Rick Santorum is possibly the least tolerant person I’ve ever dealt with,” Feingold said. “His attitude towards people who are different from himself is shocking.”

To round out this roundup, let’s look at just how intolerant Ricky Poo is of other religions. He recently put himself on record as saying there was no apology needed for the recent Quran burning in Afghanistan. Copies of the Muslim holy book and other religious materials had been thrown into a fire pit used to burn garbage at Bagram Air Field, a large U.S. base north of Kabul. This sparked protests that resulted in more than 30 civilian deaths. Rather than apologizing for the incident, Santorum feels the U.S. should have merely “taken responsibility” for the incident. He then went on to say: “The response needs to be apologized for by (President Hamid) Karzai and the Afghan people for attacking and killing our men and women in uniform and overreacting to this inadvertent mistake. That is the real crime here, not what our soldiers did.”
