The GOP: Feature or Bug?

I started my career in software development. One day, shortly after I started, my team was having a meeting in which we were discussing that period’s workload. There were new items, old items, and really old items. Some of these issues had been present since the software launched years earlier, and no one could seem to crack them. The running joke was that these things had been present in the software so long, they were no longer bugs, but features, and if we removed them we would get approximately a billion support phone calls from users that had been working around it for so long they had no idea what to do once it was finally fixed. They had been a problem for so long, they had gone from being bugs, to being features. Continue reading →

QOTD: 2011 on the Small Screen

Little-known secret about me: I really like TV. But whatevs, who doesn’t, right? Sadly (although not really, because most have passed their prime long ago), many landmark shows are either in, entering, or just had their final seasons, but as seminal rock band Semisonic once taught us, every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end, right? And so, Desperate Housewives might be ending, but Ringer is just beginning. Chuck is done, but 2 Broke Girls, the little racist show that could, is but a newborn babe. (Seriously though, if you fast forward past the racism, it’s a good show!) And so, of course, the Question of the Day: What’s Your Favorite New Show of 2011? Continue reading →

Give the Gift of Paper this Holiday Season

While paper gifts have been unfairly relegated to first year wedding anniversaries (and truth be told, how many of us will ever be married for that long?!), paper products deserve to be viewed as ideal gifts for any ideal situation.  Let’s consider a few for the holiday season.

Why is Santorum Still in This Race?

I simply don’t get it. He consistently gets crappy poll numbers (single digits) and is raising very little money. So little money, that Ron Paul raised about as much money in one day as he did in a whole quarter. Ron Paul. THAT’s how bad he is.

So I pondered this question: Why? The only thing I could come up with is that he is looking for some sort of endorsement deal or writing a book. I mean, what else is he going to do?

So here is the question, what product or service do you think he is particularly qualified to promote?

The Hollywood Caller: Highway to the Nursing Home?

An old man wants to get his groove back by sexting his old girlfriend, Top Gun. Psychopaths can be bought for cheap, right? Single at 65, sure. Kardashian’s create another monster, and ABC breaks up with some dudes.

Gird your loins, the ones without Viagra, Hollywood has news for you… Continue reading →

Blowfish for Hangovers

A new FDA registered over the counter remedy for hangovers is already available in NYC — perhaps they are aware of the high number of Crasstalk meet ups? The cure, called Blowfish for some ungodly reason, is a ‘potent combination of caffeine, aspirin and an antacid.’

Their handy-dandy website forhangovers.com has a page about hang-over science which bemoans how neglected hang-overs are in the realm of scientific study. As a bonus, they offer 60 minute delivery in NYC by purchasing it on line. Smart move. Continue reading →

The .XXX Domain is a Terrible Idea. Here’s Why.

If you’ve turned on your TV recently you may have noticed a series of (awful and borderline racist) commercials for www.Buy.xxx. Yep, you can now register Slores.xxx (or whatever). Yesterday the .xxx top level domain (TLD) officially opened as more than 100,000 sites were registered with the domain management company ICM Management.

The creation of the .xxx TLD has been roiling the adult industry for the past few years but is now just creeping into the mainstream media.  Continue reading →
