QOTD: Are You Superstitious?

As I was packing for my trip last week, I made sure to include my “race outfit.” A pair Old Navy yoga pants that have worked out great for running for me, my race shirt from the inaugural Mardi Gras Rock n Roll half marathon and my favorite head band. I am pretty sure that this outfit gives me great running power and I will run super fast.

QOTD: What’s Your Plan?

While in New Orleans over the weekend one of my friends mentioned to me that she has a new 1- and 5-year plans. I was a little shocked because this particular friend never seemed like too much of a planner. She got laid off last year and instead of trying to become a cog in another machine, she decided to go her own way. I think this life change has forced her to look further ahead than she might have normally. When she brought it up, a light bulb went off in my head. I’ve been feeling sort of restless (for lack of a better word) in my life lately. Having some long-term plans that I need to hold myself accountable for seems like it will make me work for the things that I actually want.

So far this is what I have: Continue reading

Movie Review: The Vow

On Tuesday night, I saw The Vow (so you don’t have to) courtesy of Gilt City Chicago. They offered a free cocktail hour and free popcorn before the movie. Below are some of my thoughts.

Highlights include:

  • The backside of a naked Channing Tatum (I might not like his face, but from the neck down, he does have a nice body)
  • An argument about cilantro in the first 5 minutes of the movie
  • A shot that was clearly an outtake made it to the final cut (Rachel McAdams spits food in her hair during a date scene)
  • Free wine and popcorn (it counts even if it wasn’t part of the movie right?)

QOTD: Are You a Brand Loyalist?

I've been using Crest Extra Whitening for as long as I can remember.
I ran out of toothpaste earlier this week and when I made a quick trip to Target to get some more, I could not find my brand. I stood in the toothpaste aisle like an idiot for 5 minutes looking for my brand and flavor. I could not find it and bought some other crappy flavor that made me not want to ever brush my teeth again. Thankfully, I was able to order a 6 month supply of the toothpaste I love. Running Ragged at Ragnar

On January 5 and 6, 13 of my friends and I climbed into two 12-passenger vans and ran from Miami to Key West. This race is part of the Ragnar Relay Series.

Here’s how it works: Teams of 12 people are split up into two vans – van 1 and van 2. The 13th and 14th people are the van drivers. It’s not required to have a separate driver, but it’s nice to not have to worry about running and driving all hours of the night.

Each runner has three distances (legs) to complete. Total distances ranged from 10 miles to 22 miles. My first leg was 3 miles, my second was 8.2 and my final leg was 3 miles. Runners 1-6 are in van 1 and runners 7-12 are in van 2. After each leg, runners hand off a slap bracelet to the next runner. Continue reading

Zappos.com Accounts Hacked

If you use the popular shopping site zappos.com, you have an email coming your way letting you know that your account has been compromised. Hackers were able to access customer names, email addresses, shipping and billing address and the last four digits of credit card numbers. They were also able to access customer passwords, although those were encrypted. The little bit of good news is that if you stored your full credit card number on the site, Zappos stored that information separately.
