Is Chik-fil-A Lying About Split with The Jim Henson Company?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you are aware that Chik-fil-A has come under fire for their long-standing support (in the form of monetary donations) of anti-LGBTQ organizations. A few days ago, the Jim Henson Company posted a note on their Facebook page that read as follows:

The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors. Lisa Henson, our CEO is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-fil-A to GLAAD.

Yesterday, Lizz Winsted posted the above picture to her Twitter account.

In case you can’t read the picture, here’s the text:

“We apologize for any inconvenience but as of 7/19/2012 Chick-fil-A has voluntarily recalled all of the Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Puppet Kids Meal Toys due to a possible safety issue. Please be advised that there have not been any cases in which a child has actually been injured, however there have been some reports of children getting their fingers stuck in the holes of the puppets.”

According to the Huffington Post, Chik-fil-A claims that they decided to recall the toys on July 19, and that this decision was independent of The Jim Henson Company’s decision to cut ties with the organization over its anti-gay stance. The timing of this “recall” smells like bullshit to me. What do you think?

Taking the ridiculousness a step further it seems that a Chick-fil-A employee decided to create a fake Facebook account to defend the company’s honor.
