How To Make Your Lips Look Fuller

Welcome to the second post of the new weekly series:  Slores on Beauty. The divine Dancing Queen and I will alternate bringing you advice on a range of beauty products from hair care to make-up to skincare. We are also seeking advice from you, as well as taking any questions.

I spent some time thinking about which of my favorite new products I should tell you all about and was having a tough time deciding until the sad-making photos of the beautiful Zooey Deschanel were posted in Wednesday’s Open Thread (from the Huffington Post). It looks like our Lady of Adorkable may have gone under the knife. How tragic! She was already one of the most beautiful women in the world–why alter what has worked so well for you?

But I think we can all relate. We all have that one thing (or rather, only that one thing if we’re really lucky) that we’d love to change if given the chance. Based on the photos, it looks like one of Zooey’s was her lips.

Well I have good news. You don’t have to do that to your lips! We’ve all seen Lindsay Lohan’s “bee-stung” lips–don’t go down this road. It’s a damn shame and we all know it.

You have better, cheaper, and less visually offensive options. Let me teach you how to make your lips appear fuller. It’s really easy, I promise. You only need three things:

  1. Nude lipliner
  2. Lip color of your choice
  3. One Q-tip

Even if you’re wary of lip color in general, you can choose a light color.

First thing, line carefully just outside of your natural lips with your nude or nude-ish lip color. I used a lip liner I got at Sally’s Beauty Supply a few years ago for a dollar or two, but I think Revlon Colorstay lip liner in Natural will be great too. When you’re done, it should look really dumb, like a chola who’s scared of really taking the leap:

After you’ve lined your lips, smudge the liner with a Q-Tip. It should look significantly less crazy.

After that, just go over your entire lip and the liner with the color lipstick of your choice. I chose my absolute favorite lip color, Radiant Moisturizing Lipstick in Reef.* It’s long-lasting, actually moisturizing, and it’s a gorgeous bright orangey pink that’s perfect for the summer. Now let’s compare the before and after.

OK so maybe my lips are already a little full to begin with, but it’s still a nice way to vamp it up for special occasions. It also works well with more subdued colors, like everyone’s favorite, Clinique’s Black Honey.

That’s it! Try it out and let me know what you think. Look at how happy I look to go rub this moisturizing lipstick all over a cheeseburger!**

**Just kidding. I rubbed it off before I stuffed my face with that deliciousness.
