eBaying at the Moon: Taking Care of Business

The first time I purchased something on eBay was 1999—a gently used Nintendo64 from some guy in Kansas I think. It was remarkably pain-free, as far as buying something off the internet from a stranger goes. Over the years, I’ve made a number of varied purchases via the world’s biggest auction site. As the site has grown into the billion dollar behemoth it is today, so has the range of items you can purchase, which is both amazing and a little frightening.

It’s not Criagslost, especially not in regards to the creepiness factor, but it is astounding to see what people will buy (and sell) by way of eBay. We’ll use this space periodically to feature the neat, bizarre and sometimes uncomfortable things for sale on the Internet’s second greatest marketplace (Hey, Amazon is helping pay the bills around here).

For the first edition, we’ll start out with some items that might be perfect for today’s most well known birthday boy: GOP Presidential Candidate Willard Romney. What do you get the man who has it to spend and then some?

Well, if there’s one thing ol’ Mittens purports to know, it’s business. And boy, does he love business. For his birthday then, what better gift than a few business opportunities to putter around with in retirement? My instincts say he’ll have time on his hands in a few months.

Where to start? Well, we know that Willard’s wife, Ann, has been unhappy about how the media has treated her husband in recent weeks. The best way around that? Buy your own media outlet!

For only $300K, either you or the Romneys could become proud owners of WKMG-TV in Muskegon, MI, one of Willard’s home states. What comes in this glorious package, besides the beautiful building seen here?

This is a real TV Station for sale. It comes with the property you see. It has a 2500 watt transmitter on a 200 ft tower. It also has a affillition with a network. This comes with a lot of equipment and a FCC broadcast Lic. This is not a toy internet station it is a real TV Station. It can also be seen on U Stream look for MUSKEGON TELEVISION in the search box and you will see the programs we are running. This has about a 25 to 30 mile range. The owner will finance with a good down payment. It broadcast 24/7 on UHF Ch-38. It also has a construction permite for a digital channel.  This is on about 5 cable stations, and we have talked to the dish about putting it on dish. There are 8 satelites that are in service and come with it. For more information please call Bud at 231 733-4040 or look it up on the web, listed as WMKG TV Muskegon Mi. The property is comericial, and located by two X ways.

Judging from the outside, this is a steal. Satellites? UHF-Transmission? You could easily reach at least 50 folks with that kind of reach. No word on the ‘network’ affiliation.

Now, owning a TV station means getting FCC approval, and hiring staff, lest the Romneys want to go with Big Love reruns all day. Perhaps, as a savvy investor and business owner, you want something a little more relaxed. Well then, let me interest you in Stoneridge Golf Club in West Bend, Wisconsin. For only $850K, you can pick up 170 acres of prime land only 20 minutes south of Fon-Du-Lac Wisconsin. What’s the story on this prime piece? Well, here it is from the air.

This property would be great for someone looking for an investment for the future or if you are looking for a nice private homestead. It could be used for farming. We are selling 170 acres that we now have a running golf course that is fully irrigated and as bent grass fairways and greens. With a 44′ by 88′ clubhouse with bar and small restaurant. We are selling it as is and can be used for other purposes. I have included a list of all the equipment and photos of the clubhouse and the photo of the golf course from the air is from a year after we built it so it looks a lot different now…One of the things we never had anyone that has good experience two run the course. We are selling the land for about the cost of farm land.

The pictures really tell the story, if you happen to make your way to the listing. There’s an RC Cola stand-up cooler, that’s all I’m saying.

If you’re really smart, however, you know that there’s nothing good that can come from owning a business in rural America, where you have to hire American workers. To really make some money, you need to take this operation overseas. How about some place warm, like Cyprus? For only $275K US, you can own a nightclub/restaurant in Nicosia, Cyprus. Even better, it’s 30% off the original price. How one discounts a place that looks like this, I’ll never know.

Looks classy, no? Then you remember that Cyprus is just west off the coast of Syria. Oh, and Lebanon is right there as well. You can certainly get all that foreign policy experience you may be lacking.
