Did you know an estimated 2 million people were out in the streets celebrating Carnival in Rio de Janeiro last week? Yes, 2 million people. Because I’m so generous I put together a collection of fresh 2012 Carnival videos for you kids. It was tough work but someone had to do it.
Here are a bunch of great shots from inside the Sambadrome, the 90,000-seat open-ended parade stadium in the middle of the city. What mad genius came up with the idea of building this?
Note the semi-pervy camera work!
Great footage of a samba school rehearsing before Carnival.
Drums! How do you even keep hundreds of people all on the beat like that? I guess it helps that you’re dealing with Brazilian people, who seem to have a natural sense of rhythm.
The girls next door of Brazil. You almost feel kind of bad for them, since they’d all be perfect-10s anywhere else in the world. Brazil should just start exporting.
I love that this woman says not wearing anything other than body paint allows her to “feel lighter.” I admire her commitment. Note: This video may be NSFW.
I don’t even know what to say about this last one other than that this is clearly humanity’s greatest artistic accomplishment.
