Hidden Historical Gems in Your Neighborhood

As part of the City of Los Angeles’ Office of Historic Resources SurveyLA project, they’ve created several online services to get information and input from Angelenos. The SurveyLA project is designed to identify historic resources in Los Angeles.

I just signed up to participate in MyHistoricLA, which is looking for LA resident’s ideas on ways to share and preserve history about overlooked historic gems in their neighborhoods through social clubs or other innovative or creative resources.

This is an incredibly cool use of technology — Twitter and Facebook friendly — and designed to be easily shared with others. What you do is simply add placemarkers to a Google map and write about why you think something is historical or interesting. Others can second your idea or comment on it, creating a genuine conversation about a community’s history. It’s a wonderful way to learn about your community and share knowledge you already have.

Since Crasstalk is a global online community, I was hoping some of you would share the overlooked historic gems in your own neighborhoods.
