Big Blue Laying Off US Workers Again

According to The Endicott Alliance and WRAL Tech Wire, IBM has today announced yet another round of layoffs.

Since 2005, IBM has reduced its work force in the United States by nearly 30 percent, according to figures published by IBM through 2009 and estimated since by the Endicott Alliance.

From 2005 to 2011, IBM’s United States employees went from 133,789 to 98,000. The worst year in recent memory for IBM layoffs was 2009, when 10,000 regular employees were let go.

As of noon on February 27, the Endicott Alliance received reports of over 200 confirmed layoffs. February 27 is the first day that employees are being told they will be let go. The number of confirmed layoffs will climb as more employees learn their fate and report their job cuts to the Endicott Alliance.
