Project Runway All Stars Season One: Meet The Designers

Hey kids, shake it loose together for this Thursday’s premiere episode of Project Runway All Stars. This collection of has-beens and also-rans and fan favorites is coming to the Lifetime Lady Parts Network at 9 eastern / 8 central time. Set your DVRs to “ignunt” and prepare yourselves for the spectacle.

Let’s talk about who the producers procured for our prurient entertainment.

First, the Ones To Watch:

  • Mondo Guerra
  • Austin Scarlett
  • Rami Kashou
  • Michael Costello

Mondo was robbed, as well all know. There was no reason on earth for Wretchen to win their season. Although he was eliminated fairly early on, Austin was a strong contender in his season. To be fair, that was one of the strongest seasons, designer-wise, overall. Austin would have walked all over some of the designers in later seasons. Rami was King of the Draping and he is just fun to look at. Let’s hope for more space booty pants on him. And Michael Costello? He’s in the “ones to watch” category because he was so unstoppable in his season. He kept turning out blech and the judges kept on loving it. Let’s see if his sensibilities have improved and/or if the new crop of judges are digging his scene.

Second, the Ones To Waltz Out The Door:

  • April Johnston
  • Gordana Gehlhausen
  • Jerell Scott
  • Kara Janx
  • Mila Hermanovski
  • Anthony Williams

I really enjoyed Mila Hermanovski’s color-block designs in her season, but she was kind of a one-note designer. Maybe she has learned some new tricks. If not, off she goes. A couple years after her season, Kara Janx had a short lived series on IFC that illustrated her struggles to get her brand off the ground. Unfortunately, she hadn’t learned anything from her time on Project Runway, and was going through the same old problems. Is it possible she’s learned anything in the last year? Gordana “Gordon” Gehlhausen was a middle-of-the-pack designer in her season, not really a stand-out. Jerell Scott and his emaciated chest had a few wins during his season, but his efforts were very uneven. It’s possible he has learned consistency since his season, and it’s possible he’s still all over the map. April Johnston has a new hard-edged look. She’s 22 and looks 35. Has it been hard living for our April? She says she wants to get Lady Gaga and Florence Welch as clients. I want to get with François Sagat. Let’s see who achieves their goal first. Anthony Williams could have some goodness in him, he really could. Or, he might get all distracted again by the crazy and the challenges (and Rami and his space booty) and end up throwing a whole lot of nothing down the runway. It’s his contest to lose.

And Third, the Ones Who Bring The Crazy:

  • Elisa Jimenez
  • Kenley Collins
  • Sweet P

You must recall Elisa Jimenez as The One Who Spits On Fabric. You could also recall her as the Pooping Fabric Lady. She didn’t last too long but she made a big splash while she was on the show. Kenley Collins, pretender to the Queen Bitch throne, was really just a whiny pewly mewly blort of a designer. Cat thrower. Tiny apartment haver. Not a whole lot of talent, but really good at stealing others’ designs. Our little Sweet P really is sweet, but she’s not terribly balanced. Hopefully the producers will have taken her off all her meds so she can get all wound up and have an excellent blow-out.

There you have it. The Lucky Thirteen designers who are going to gavotte for our amusement. Watch this space for a recap of the crazy, won’t you?
