Now that we are in the home-run stretch of the holiday season with the Thanksgiving feasts, company-sponsored Christmas parties to attend and all that comes with New Year’s Eve debauchery; we’ve got to be mindful about how we finish off the year and start off the next one.
It’s very easy to slide down that slippery slope of gluttony with all of the holiday goodies and drinks to consume, but remember that if you’re planning to get into shape or training for that marathon next year you shouldn’t be packing on that winter coat! By the time we realize that Spring is upon us it’s twice as hard to lose that extra weight, so plan ahead and be mindful about your respective health goals for the New Year.
Instead of putting your training and exercise routines on the shelf, just scale back a little bit to make time for friends and family. Get to the gym or the trail before you hit the buffet line or the spread at grandma’s house. And don’t shy away from the scale — get on it every morning so that you can see where you are before you go pig out.
You wanna know how to avoid unfulfilled New Year’s resolutions? Don’t make them in the first place. On a serious note, I would wager that at least 80% of New Year’s resolutions have something to do with losing weight, getting into shape or at least being better about your overall health and how you need to be more mindful of all of the above.
Here’s my two cent: You’ll finish how you start. Meaning if you start strong you’ll most likely end strong and if you start wrong you’ll most likely give up or give in too early.
It’s very easy to lose focus on the fitness goals you’ve got planned for the coming year, but give yourself a fighting chance at a happy, healthy new year.
So eat, drink and be merry (responsibly, of course) and get the jump on your New Year’s resolutions before unfulfilled promises — and that extra belly flab — get the jump on you.
Happy holidays and POWER UP!
