Tuesday News Roundup

All right gang, I’m a bit worn out so let’s get this over with.

  • Propublica has an excellent report on the bungled investigation into the anthrax attack that killed five people in 2001. While the lead suspect Bruce Ivins committed suicide in 2008, questions about the attacks and the government handling of the cases have persisted. By the way, if ProPublica is not on your online reading list; it needs to be.
  • The Hutton Hotel in Nashville is getting pestered by evil wingnut Pamela Gellar because it is refusing to host an anti-Islamic conference.  Gellar, who seriously, is totally evil, is demanding that her readers harass the hotel staff for caving to Sharia laws (really, she actually claims this) against blasphemy for refusing to host her hate party after community complaints. Anyway, you can read the whole drama here. Just as Gellar can post the contact info on her blog to bother the nice folks at the Hutton, I can tell you there email address of the manager of the hotel is [email protected] in case you feel like dropping him a line and thanking him for his sanity.
  • Remember how I told you to read ProPublica? I was totally serious. Here is a troubling report about a new proposal that would allow the government to hide the existence of some documents requested under the Freedom of Information Act. So not only could the government deny you access to documents, they may soon be able to pretend like they don’t even exist. I am sure that won’t be used for evil.
  • Amnesty International has released a report about the Syrian government’s use of hospitals as venues for torture. Oh, and the US has recalled its Ambassador to Syria when concerns were raised about his safety in response to his public support of embattled protestors. Suck it Assad, just suck it.

All right, here is this week’s crazy white guy video. This one is totally excellent.
