Giant Sized Nerd News Roundup

Friends, we have made it to the big dance. The convention of conventions. Comic Con International, AKA the San Diego Comicon AKA, “Hover Hands Central” is upon us. If you’re lucky enough to be in San Diego may I be the first to say, “I envy you” and suggest you read N*E*R*D’s stellar series: How Not to Be A Jerk At Comic-Con, a three part series on good behavior in the nerdiest place on earth. After you’ve completed that and counted at least 5 Dark Knight Jokers, 3 Power Girls and at least one Cardboard Gundam, come back here and catch up on the news you missed on the floor before you head out and try to hit on She-Hulk.

For the rest of you, welcome to the Pity Party. You’re probably already glue to every website, blog, and begrudgingly to G4 (and maybe one episode of Cheaters) but I’m here to pick out the juiciest bits from Day 1. This week we learned that Universal hates books and puppies, the IT Department is up to something and you really really need to do a barrel roll in this week’s GIANT SIZED Nerd News Roundup!

Games

  • I’m not prepared to do a barrel roll just yet, but I’m close.
  • Because there isn’t a person on Earth who doesn’t want to see a lawyer fight a raccoon and a wizard.
  • Star Wars MMO, take two! Don’t screw it up. I have faith in you.
  • Why does any title involving “The North” compel me to shout it at the top of my lungs. To wit, THE WAR IN THE NORTH!

Comics

  • Tom Morello pens a comic and calls the main character “the Spartacus of Whores.” Absorb that for a moment.
  • Spider-Man, this is all your fault.
  • Why yes, this is going up in the nursery, why do you ask?
  • I’m actually disappointed she isn’t dating a member of the Sugar Hill Gang.
  • This isn’t Batman at all so just get that out of your head right now. He has guns. Batman doesn’t have guns.
  • Dear IT, I’ve tried to contact you several times but you seem to be M.I.S.//ing. Also, something is wrong with my keyboard.
  • Marvel is going to give someone a guitar. The rest of you are getting a button.
  • Now we can have a Lego Justice League instead of the “Batman meets Harry Potter and Indiana Jones” some people who are totally not me play right now.
  • Looking for some classic EC comics? IDW brings back Wally Wood’s finest.
  • Villains. For Hire. I wonder how much the charge to “key” someone’s car.

Movies

  • Universal Pictures has forgotten the face of their father.
  • Bacne has nothing on a case of the “neck webs”.
  • It’s Hilary Swank vs the Government of Venus.  Better hope they aren’t armed with pillows.
  • So the question is, “How will fox manage to screw up The Silver Samurai?” My money is on portly Yoshinoya employee who summons dragons through flatulence.

That’s all for now. If you promise to be really good and promise to read N*E*R*D’s articles, maybe I’ll do a special Nerd News Weekend Roundup. Oh I’ll know if any of you don’t read it. I have ways.
