Start Your Summer With Gin

Can’t we all kiss and make up?  No?  How about a rousing game of spin the bottle?

GIN!! Yes!  Gin on a warm day is the best.

This weekend marks the beginning of my summer.  My country club’s pool opens at noon and I will promptly go to my bartender Rachel and ask for one of these:

Ginger Rogers

  • 6-8 Mint leaves, plus a couple for garnish
  • 2/3 ounce ginger pepper syrup
  • crushed ice
  • gin — a jigger or so — Rachel doesn’t measure
  • 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 2 oz chilled ginger ale

Muddle mint leaves with ginger-pepper syrup.  Add crushed ice.  Add gin and lemon juice.  Mix drink with a spoon or straw and then add in ginger ale.

Sweet with a bit of zip... like Crasstalkers (only not as bitter)

(Ginger-pepper syrup: thinly slice 1″ piece of ginger.  Combine 1/2 cup sugar  with 6 oz water in small pan.  Add 1 t whole black peppercorns and ginger.  Simmer until sugar dissolves over low heart.  Cook on low heat for additional 10 minutes.  Cool and strain)

Spin the bottle and give me your favorite drink?
