Let’s Play Diplomat!

Hi everyone!

Thunderclees here. You may remember me from Gawker, where I was also known as Thunderclees. Here, I will be known as Thunderclees too, as well.

Yay, I get to write now! And since I have a deep, passionate, and abiding love for foreign policy, I’d like to share with you a quote from a friend’s Facebook wall regarding all this hullaballoo in Egypt.  Friend of Thunderclees posted this, claiming that the Obama Administration has been “cowardly” in its dealings with Egypt lately.  I responded “Bish plz!” Friend of Thunderclees responded as follows:

for fucks sake. [The Obama Administration] didn’t do a goddamn thing. Except support the brutal fucking regime for how many years? Read the official comments from the white house. They don’t say ANYTHING. “There needs to be a peaceful change.” TO WHAT? What did they do wrong? Nothing really, with regard to the change. They went by the playbook: support the regime that benefits us economically until it untenable and then switch sides and pretend they were with the people the whole time. This assertion is neither controversial nor is it radical; it is a matter of historical fact upon moderate scrutiny of the record. Are you running for office or something out there in [redacted]?

Well, this sort of stuff just grinds my gears, and since I’m a state-of-the-art battle robot, I’m not even supposed to have gears!

So I asked my friend, Well, what would you have done differently?  Friend of Thunderclees hemmed and hawed and eventually didn’t have an answer.

In my not-so-humble opinion, I think the Obama Administration handled the events in Egypt about as well as they possibly could have. But clearly, not everyone shares that opinion.

Which is what brings me here, to you beautiful people.

Let’s pretend you were President of these United States over the last month: how would you have handled the, erm, situation in Egypt?
