Crasserolia: The Results

Greetings, chickadees! I know you’ve been eagerly waiting for the results of our Crasserole Contest. This time we asked you to be a little luxurious with the ingredients seeing as we’ve been making you be all stingy with el budget. You did not disappoint! We ended up having an ultimate smackdown between The Grand Inquisitor herself and our resident Aussie, BaldwinP. Both formidible opponents who you wouldn’t want to get caught in a culinary dark alley with, so to speak. So without any further ado, on to the results!

As usual, the judges scored each entrant’s dish according to taste appeal, creativity, freshness and cooking techniques. Then, they made a note of the final cost and gave each contestant a score from 1-10 in each category. Finally, the scores were added and our winner is:

BaldwinP!! CONGRATULATIONS!! The scores were oh SO close but BaldwinP edged out GI in his use of unexpected ingredients.

Let’s take a look at how it broke down:

The Grand Inquisitor – 133 points / Budget: $14.95
GT_Cosita:  This dish is the definition of comfort food. Great lunch/dinner on a chilly day, and you could even make it for brunch because of the eggs.
Launie K.:  This lovely vegetarian casserole embodies everything you want in comfort food. Potatoes and cream aren’t unusual casserole fare, but parsnips are. And why they don’t receive more love from people is bizarre to me. For some reason people seem to consider parsnips to be the proverbial “Cousin Oliver” from the Brady Bunch – a strange addition. But they are delicious, and in this casserole G.I. lets them shine. Also, the addition of nutmeg puts this creamy, cheesy dish into a “must make” category.

BaldwinP – 134 points / Budget: $14.95
GT_Cosita:  Wow! I am still trying to wrap my brain around all the different ingredients, but I love the fact that this recipe is authentic to your location, and uses a non-traditional meat. Who knew casseroles could be so adventurous?
Launie K.:  Well, we asked you to be creative, and this dish pushes creativity into a new realm. Gamey kangaroo with bright citrus flavors and sweet potato. What the what? Genius.

So that’s it! Here’s your trophy, Baldwin.

Thank you Baldwin and GI for your hard work in making this an awesome contest. We really appreciate your effort. Thank you again also to the judges who cheerfully lend themselves each time to judging you. We’ll be back again in some incarnation. As always, theme suggestions are welcome!

THANK YOU!
