Recipe Sunday: Turtle Brownies

Last week I found myself having very intense chocolate cravings. I decided to bake my trusty Alton Brown brownies, but when I found a can of dulce de leche in the pantry I decided to jazz them up a bit. The resulting creation is a chewy, moist, and sweet brownie that only requires you to eat a small piece to feel satisfied. The addition of instant coffee makes the chocolate flavor even more intense. Recipe Sunday: Greens Pie with Ricotta and Parmesan

Damn, this pie was good. Seriously delicious. The only drawback is that it’s made from ingredients that are readily available in Vermont in the summer, fall and even early winter, but not so much in February. So, you may not be able to find really quality greens to make this with either. But, if you’re shopping this afternoon, see some good looking greens and feel a twinge of nostalgia for a time of earlier bounty, you should give this a whirl. Continue reading

Recipe Sunday: Heavenly Broiled Grouper

RecipeSundayBroiledGrouper

I first discovered this recipe on one of those swivel stands at the Destin Ice Seafood Market. I found it again last week online, and decided it had been too long since we’d had this. It was as good as I remembered it. At first, you think fish and cheese should never ever mix, but this recipe will prove you wrong (as it proved me wrong). Continue reading

Recipe Sunday: Herb-Crusted Rib Roast

Yummy Rib RoastLast Wednesday, my in-laws were in town and my mother-in-law volunteered to make this recipe she had recently seen in the newspaper. It was so nice not to have to worry about feeding my guests for dinner, and it turns out that this easy-to-make recipe is also incredibly delicious. I can’t wait to try the mustard-panko crust on a pork tenderloin or chicken drumsticks. Continue reading

Recipe Sunday: Pecan Pie

Pecan Pie

Even though the season of gluttony and sweets is behind us, I can’t help but share my grandmother’s recipe for pecan pie. We lost my grandpa last year, so this past December was the first time my grandmother came to visit us and spent the holidays in the U.S. We had a wonderful time, and she earned her keep by baking several pecan pies, which then only lasted about 24 hours as we greedily devoured them. Recipe Sunday: Home Fries Three Ways

Although New Year’s Day is a couple rotations of the earth away, it’s never too early to start contemplating what to feed stay-over guests in the morning. And this is one of my favorite breakfast foods. It’s simple, filling, spicy and cheesy.

And it’s served me admirably on a number of New Year’s Day mornings – both when the house was overflowing with guests and when it was just two of us huddled around the warm glow of a DVD marathon to greet the brand new year on a groggy morning. Continue reading

Recipe Sunday: Sangria and Dessert

Yummy trifle and sangria.

Now that we are approaching the end of the year, it is time for ALL the parties! While I have no issues with slaving away in front of the oven cooking and baking all day, sometimes I just want to whip something up and be done with it. In the spirit of quick and dirty party planning, today I want to share recipes for sangria and a marble chocolate trifle that won’t take long to make. Continue reading
