This Year in Anti-Choice Tomfoolery: The Midwest

The Midwest has been busily restricting our reproductive rights this year! Get ready for some hot, old-white-conservative-man-on-woman* legislation.

This is just some of the legislation proposed in 2013. For a full list of your state’s reproductive laws, check out the Guttmacher Institute. You can also usually find current proposed bills on Open States, or on your state legislature’s website if they allow you to search by subject. Continue reading →

Super Squats Challenge

Welcome back, Super Squaters! I bet you thought you would take the summer off! So did I! My trainer had different plans for me. He told me that I needed a new fitness goal for the next 12 weeks, and he was right. I managed to deal with some pretty big things in the top half of this year and not let my health completely fall to the wayside. However, I still have not met my long time weight goal and my butt still doesn’t look like Ivet Lalova’s (google her, I’ll wait). Continue reading →

This Year in Anti-Choice Tomfoolery: The Northeast

Welcome to the third installment in this series on anti-choice politics in 2013. The northeastern states haven’t had as much success in passing most of the proposed anti-abortion legislation this session, though not for lack of trying. Highlights include the loss of the entire Women’s Equality Act in New York, a stalled bill that would require crisis pregnancy centers to tell the truth about their services, and Gov. Chris Christie’s refusal to include additional funds for family planning in the New Jersey state budget.

Let’s see what’s happening in your state! Continue reading →

QOTD: What’s Your Extreme Weather Story?

When I was eight years old, my family spent the month of July visiting my stepfather’s parents on their farm outside of Wichita  Kansas. One evening, my sister and I were bathing, supervised by our mom. We had just noticed lighting through the bathroom window, when my step-grandmother burst into the bathroom grabbed my sister out of the tub and told my mom to wrap me in a towel and follow her. Top Music Videos With Sexy Supermodels Werking It

Justin Timberlake recently released the totally not safe for work video for Tunnel Vision, the third video from 20/20, and frankly, it’s disappointing. Boring and disappointing. If he cared at all about the comparisons being made between him and Robin Thicke, JT’s video featuring three beautiful, nearly nude women aimlessly prancing and writhing around certainly will not help. However, where the women in Thicke’s totally not safe for work video are instant video icons, JT’s are literally like moving wallpaper. It’s a real missed opportunity.

As listed after the jump, there are plenty of examples of other artists having used models to great effect. Study up, this generation of people making music videos! Continue reading →

This Year in Anti-Choice Tomfoolery: The Southeast

Prepare for the onslaught.

Highlights of anti-abortion absurdity in the southeastern region include a desperate attempt by Marco Rubio to pander to his base, a bundle of anti-choice amendments attached to a Sharia law ban (I know, right?) that was hidden from the public until the vote, and a bill so racist, five legislators just walked the hell out of the chambers during the debate.

Keep in mind, this is just some of the legislation proposed in 2013. There’s been plenty of anti-choice bullshit introduced and passed in past years, especially since 2011. You can find your state’s current laws on the Guttmacher Institute. Continue reading →
